Born on the Norwegian seas
Helly Hansen is the oldest brand we sell at Skistore Swing, it all started back in 1877. Norwegian captain Helly Juell Hansen thought he should find a better way to protect his sailors from the Nordic weather at sea. He made waterproof clothing for his sailors by applying linseed oil to cotton. His wife saw the potential of the clothing and so together they started the Helly Hansen brand.
Today, the brand is best known for their innovative technologies, but how do they do this? It all starts with the team that develops the best technologies and tests them together with top athletes, and they have been doing this for 140 years! By listening to the needs of the athletes, they are able to come up with innovative solutions. But it's not just about listening to needs. The brand also invests in research and development to create innovative technologies that push the standard in the industry. From advanced waterproof membranes to breathable insulation materials, every detail of a Helly Hansen product is carefully designed and tested to ensure optimal performance. If you want to know more about the technologies read on.
Warmte zonder zorgen

Contribution to the environment
The brand does this in different ways, for instance, they try to make their products last as long as possible, as most of the damage to the environment is done while making a product. They make sure their choice in materials does not disrespect the environment and they are in the process of creating an infrastructure for recycling their old products.
What are they doing in terms of their material choices? Over the past decades, they have taken several steps, for instance, they have removed all fur from the range, all down is according to the RDS (Responsible Down Standard) and all leather is out of the range. Since 2008, they have been partners with Bluesign, Bluesign is an organisation dedicated to making textile production more sustainable and they are also working to remove harmful chemicals from water-repellent products. Lastly, the brand has started recycling, they are creating a system where you can hand in your old product so they can recycle it. They also aim to have 50% of their polyester and polyamide fibres recycled by 2025.
