What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.

Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

Product information
  • 80 g PrimaLoft BLACK Eco in a sealed 2-layer shell
  • LIFE POCKET helps phone battery last in the cold
  • RECCO, powder skirt and wrist gaiters built in
  • 80 g insulation runs warm on mild or hard days
  • Too warm for ski touring and long skinning climbs
  • Not a packable shell for mountaineering routes

The Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket is an insulated men's ski jacket for resort and piste skiing, with a classic look. It pairs a 2-layer HELLY TECH® Performance shell and fully sealed seams with 80 g PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco insulation. 4-way stretch panels sit under the arms, and a LIFE POCKET™ helps your phone battery last longer in the cold.

Who is the Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket for?

The Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket is for skiers who spend most of their day on groomed runs and lifts and want an insulated ski jacket rather than a shell. An adjustable powder skirt, wrist gaiters and a RECCO® reflector also make it a sound choice for off-piste runs close to the resort. It is not built for ski touring with long skinning ascents, where the insulation runs hot even with the vents open. It is also not a light, packable hardshell for mountaineering or high-alpine routes.

How warm is the Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket?

The Courchevel ski jacket carries 80 g PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco synthetic insulation, a mid-weight level rather than an expedition one. The HELLY TECH® Performance membrane is waterproof and breathable, and the fully sealed seams keep water out at the stitching. Underarm ventilation zippers let you release heat on the run. On mild days or during sustained effort the jacket can still run warm. In very cold conditions it relies on suitable layers underneath.

Which size should I choose in the Courchevel Jacket?

The Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket uses 4-way stretch under the arms and 2-way mechanical stretch in the rest of the body. The hood is adjustable and fits over a ski helmet. Measure your chest at its widest point and compare it with the size chart on this product page. Measure over the base layer you plan to ski in. If you usually wear a thick midlayer, check the chart with that layer in mind before you order.

How is the Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket constructed?

The Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket uses a 2-layer HELLY TECH® Performance construction: a waterproof, breathable membrane combined with the outer fabric, and fully sealed seams so water cannot work its way in through the stitching. Behind the shell sits 80 g PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco, a synthetic insulation made of 100% polyester. The main shell is 100% polyester. A second shell fabric of 85% polyamide and 15% elastane provides the stretch: 4-way under the arms and 2-way mechanical stretch in the rest of the body. The main lining contains 14% elastane, so the inside of the jacket stretches with the outside.

Is the Courchevel Jacket suitable for off-piste skiing?

The Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket is designed first for the piste, but it handles off-piste runs near the lifts well. The adjustable powder skirt and the wrist gaiters keep snow out when you ride deeper snow or fall. A RECCO® reflector is built in, so professional rescuers with a RECCO detector can locate you. It is not a replacement for an avalanche transceiver. The helmet-compatible hood adjusts with a drawcord, and its neon brim adds visibility. The jacket stops where the climbing starts. On ski tours with long skinning ascents the 80 g insulation runs hot, even with the underarm zips open. On mountaineering and climbing routes you need a lighter, packable shell.

What pockets and adjustments does the Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket have?

The Courchevel ski jacket has chest and hand pockets, an inner chest pocket with zipper, an internal mesh pocket and a dedicated ski pass pocket. The LIFE POCKET™ is built to help your phone battery last longer in cold temperatures, and a phone holder inside the pocket keeps the phone in place. Adjustable cuffs with a fastener and a drawcord on the hem let you seal the jacket against wind and snow.

How do I wash and care for the Courchevel Jacket?

The Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket combines polyester, polyamide and elastane fabrics with a polyester insulation, so it goes in the machine. Close all zips and hook-and-loop fasteners first, wash with similar colours and use a detergent made for technical garments. Do not soak the jacket and do not use fabric softener. Tumble dry with dryer balls, which helps the PrimaLoft® insulation regain its loft after washing.

What sustainability credentials does the Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket have?

The Helly Hansen Courchevel Jacket is a bluesign® product. Its insulation is PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco, the Eco version of PrimaLoft® BLACK.
