Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 133 g/m2 body fill, 60 g/m2 in the hood
- Shell, lining and fill all 100% recycled polyester
- PFC-free DWR, no intentionally added PFAS
- Water repellent only, not for sustained rain
- No pit zips: runs hot on high-output tours
- Two zipped hand pockets, no chest pocket
The Peak Performance Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket Men is a synthetic-insulated hooded jacket with 133 g/m2 of recycled polyester fill in the body and 60 g/m2 in the hood, under a recycled polyester ripstop face fabric. Shell, lining and filling are all 100% recycled polyester, and the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS. It is water repellent rather than waterproof, which places it between a midlayer and a winter jacket instead of in the hardshell category.
Who is the Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket for?
This jacket suits you if you want one warm synthetic layer that works under a ski shell on the mountain and on its own in town. Peak Performance specifies the Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket Men for two roles: as insulation beneath a shell, and as a standalone outer layer in cold, dry weather. It is not the jacket for sustained rain or wet snow, and with no powder skirt and no ski-specific pockets it is not built to be your resort outer shell.
How warm is the Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket?
Warmth comes from quilted synthetic sheet insulation: 133 g/m2 across the body and 60 g/m2 in the fixed hood, with a 100% recycled polyester lining. That is a clear step above a fleece and is aimed at standing around, commuting and lift days in dry cold. There are no pit zips or other ventilation openings, so on a hard-breathing ski tour the Peak Performance Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket Men will run hot. Total weight is 630 g.
Which size should you choose?
The Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket Men is cut as a regular fit and comes in S, M, L, XL and 2XL. There is room for a midlayer or a thin fleece underneath, and it still fits under a roomy hardshell. Measure your chest and compare it with the size chart on this page before you order, especially if you plan to wear the jacket as a layer rather than on its own.
How is the Peak Performance Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket built?
The Peak Performance Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket Men combines a recycled polyester ripstop face fabric with a quilted synthetic sheet insulation of 100% recycled polyester. The quilting follows a P-logo pattern, which holds the fill in place so it cannot shift into cold spots. A PFC-free Durable Water Repellent treatment makes the outer surface shed light snow and short showers; there is no membrane and no stated water column, so this is weather resistance rather than waterproofing. The front closes with a reversed YKK coil zipper behind a chinguard, the hem pulls in with a drawcord and the cuffs are finished with elastic binding.
Does the Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket work for skiing?
On the mountain, the Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket Men is the layer you wear under a hardshell on cold days, then keep on at the hut afterwards. On a dry, cold resort day it also works on its own. Where it stops: 133 g/m2 of fixed body insulation with no ventilation openings is too much for high-output touring, and the water repellent finish is not enough for a day of wet snow. There is no powder skirt and the pocket layout is two zippered hand pockets, so for riding deep snow in bad weather you want a dedicated shell over it. No RECCO reflector is fitted, so it does not add anything to an avalanche search.
What is it made of and how do you wash it?
Both shell fabrics, the lining and the filling of the Peak Performance Elevate Insulated Hood Jacket Men are 100% recycled polyester. Polyester fill keeps its loft when damp and dries faster than down, which suits a jacket used as a layer under a shell. Machine wash at 40 degrees Celsius, inside out, with zippers closed and no fabric softener. A technical detergent keeps the water repellent treatment working. Tumble dry low or line drip dry in the shade, and do not iron, steam or dry clean. Remove the jacket from the machine promptly after washing.
What makes this a more sustainable choice?
Shell, lining and filling are fully recycled polyester and the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS, with a PFC-free DWR instead. A repair patch is supplied with the jacket, and Peak Performance states that the design reduces fabric waste in production and is intended to improve repairability. The elastic binding at the cuffs has no hook-and-loop adjustment, which keeps the construction simple but gives you less control over the seal around a glove.
