Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 170 g/m2 PrimaLoft Gold for deep cold
- Goatskin leather palm, 133 g/m2 PrimaLoft ECO
- dri1 insert, long cuff, one-hand closure
- Currently offered in XS only
- Too warm for ascents and mild spring days
- Bulk and long cuff limit finger dexterity
The Norrøna trollveggen dri PrimaLoft170 long Gloves are heavily insulated, waterproof mountaineering gloves with a long cuff, built for cold and wet days in the mountains. They combine 170 g/m2 PrimaLoft Gold on the outside of the glove with 133 g/m2 PrimaLoft Gold ECO in the palm and a dri1 insert, which makes them the warmest waterproof glove in the trollveggen line. A goatskin leather palm handles rope, axe and pole contact.
Who are these gloves for?
They suit a mountaineer or alpinist working in cold, wet conditions, and skiers with cold hands who ride lifts, freeride or belay in deep cold. They are not the glove for high-output ascents, spring touring or mild weather: with this much insulation your hands will overheat. They are also not the glove for fine finger work such as adjusting bindings, handling camera controls or tying knots.
How warm are the trollveggen dri PrimaLoft170 long Gloves?
Insulation is split by zone: 170 g/m2 PrimaLoft Gold across the outside of the glove, where heat is lost fastest, and 133 g/m2 PrimaLoft Gold ECO in the palm, where a thinner build keeps grip workable. A brushed polyester liner sits against the skin, and the dri1 insert keeps wet snow and rain out while still letting moisture move. This is a cold-conditions glove, not a three-season one.
Which size should you choose?
The Norrøna trollveggen dri PrimaLoft170 long Gloves are a unisex glove, currently offered in XS only, so check your hand measurement against the size information on this page before ordering. The long cuff is made to pull over a jacket sleeve rather than tuck under it, and the one-hand closure lets you cinch the glove without taking the other glove off.
How are the Norrøna trollveggen dri PrimaLoft170 long Gloves built?
The Norrøna trollveggen dri PrimaLoft170 long Gloves are made up of four working layers. The outer fabric is flex1, a stretch material that moves with the hand instead of resisting it. Behind it sits a dri1 insert, the waterproof and breathable membrane layer that keeps wet snow, sleet and rain from reaching the insulation. The insulation itself is PrimaLoft Gold at 170 g/m2 on the outside of the glove and PrimaLoft Gold ECO at 133 g/m2 in the palm, so the back of the hand gets the thickest loft while the palm stays closer to the grip. A brushed polyester liner finishes the inside. A goatskin leather palm is bonded over the grip zone, and a lightweight leash keeps the glove attached when you take it off at a belay or on a lift.
Are these gloves suitable for mountaineering and ski touring?
Mountaineering and alpinism in cold, wet conditions is what this glove is for. The leather palm gives you something durable to hold a rope, an axe shaft or a pole with, and the long cuff seals over a shell sleeve when spindrift is moving. For skiing, the trollveggen dri PrimaLoft170 long Gloves work on cold resort days and on freeride descents where you are moving fast and generating little hand heat. On a ski tour they belong in the pack for the descent and for standing around at transitions, not on your hands during the climb: 170 g/m2 of insulation plus a membrane will cook your hands on an ascent. The same bulk is the reason you will want to pull them off for any task that needs fingertip precision.
What are the Norrøna trollveggen dri PrimaLoft170 long Gloves made of, and how do you look after them?
The build combines a flex1 stretch outer fabric, a goatskin leather palm, a dri1 membrane insert, PrimaLoft Gold and PrimaLoft Gold ECO insulation, and a brushed polyester liner. That mix behaves differently from a single-fabric glove: leather needs to stay supple and should be dried slowly and away from direct heat, since a radiator or a stove will stiffen and crack it. Let the gloves dry fully with the cuffs open after a wet day, so moisture does not stay trapped against the insulation. Treat the leather palm as the wear part, because it takes the abrasion from rope, poles and ski edges while the stretch outer fabric handles the flexing.
What is the sustainability angle on this glove?
The palm insulation of the Norrøna trollveggen dri PrimaLoft170 long Gloves is PrimaLoft Gold ECO, the recycled-content version of the same insulation family used on the outside of the glove. The rest of the build leans on durability instead: a goatskin leather palm and a stretch outer fabric are there so the glove keeps working over many seasons rather than being replaced after one.
