What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 750 fill power RDS down, high loft for low bulk
  • Matte side rated 15,000 mm against snow and rain
  • Two hand pockets on each side, both faces wearable
  • No water column rating for the Pertex Quantum side
  • Hand wash or dry clean only, no machine washing
  • No ventilation zips: too warm for uphill skinning

The Mountain Studio W Pertex Reversible Tecno Down Jacket (D-5 W) is a women's reversible down jacket for cold, dry winter days on the piste and in town. One face is a shiny quilted 20D Pertex Quantum shell, the other a matte flat face carrying a hydrophilic membrane rated 15,000 mm water column, and both are filled with 750 fill power RDS certified down. You get two genuinely different looks and one warm jacket, with hand pockets on both sides so either face can be worn out.

Who is this down jacket for?

This jacket suits a woman who wants one clean, warm insulated layer for cold resort days, winter travel and city use, and who values a minimalist silhouette over hardshell hardware. It is not the right choice for sustained rain or wet snow, since down loses loft once soaked, and not for high-output ski touring or skinning, where a down layer overheats and the W Pertex Reversible Tecno Down Jacket has no ventilation zips.

How warm and how weatherproof is it?

Warmth comes from 750 fill power RDS certified down, a high-loft fill that traps air efficiently for its bulk. The matte side is rated 15,000 mm water column and handles snow and light rain; no water column figure is given for the Pertex Quantum side, which is tightly woven against wind. The Mountain Studio gives no fill weight, garment weight or temperature rating, so treat this as a cold-and-dry jacket rather than a storm shell.

Which size should you choose?

The cut is regular, described by the maker as ergonomic and intended for layering over a base layer and a midlayer. The Mountain Studio does not state that the W Pertex Reversible Tecno Down Jacket runs small or large, so use the size chart and your chest measurement. If you want a relaxed fit or plan to wear a thick fleece underneath, take one size up. Available in XS to XL.

How is the reversible construction built?

The W Pertex Reversible Tecno Down Jacket from The Mountain Studio is one garment with two finished outer faces and no separate lining. The quilted face is 20D Pertex Quantum, a tightly woven, fine-denier fabric used here as the wind-resistant, low-bulk outer. The flat matte face is built on a fabric with a hydrophilic membrane rated 15,000 mm water column, which moves moisture outward through the membrane rather than through open pores. Between the two sits 750 fill power RDS certified down. Because both faces are wearable, the closure and the pockets are duplicated: two hand pockets on each side, a ski pass pocket and YKK zippers throughout. A hood is fitted; hood adjustment and helmet compatibility are not documented by the maker, so assume it works over a hat rather than over a ski helmet.

Is this jacket suitable for resort skiing?

Yes, for cold and dry resort days. Worn with the membrane side out, the 15,000 mm rating of this women's down jacket deals with falling snow, lift queues and light rain, and the down keeps you warm while you are moving between runs and standing still. Where it stops: there are no taped seams, no snow skirt, no adjustable cuffs and no RECCO reflector mentioned by The Mountain Studio, so in a long day of wet snow a hardshell is the better tool. The 20D face fabric is fine and light, which also means a loaded pack on rough rock will wear it faster than a heavyweight ripstop.

What is it made of and how do you wash it?

The shell face is 20D Pertex Quantum, the matte face a membrane fabric rated 15,000 mm, and the insulation is 750 fill power RDS certified down; the maker does not state fibre content for the two face fabrics. Care is more demanding than a synthetic jacket: hand wash gently with a mild detergent, no bleach, no fabric softener, dry flat. Professional dry cleaning is also recommended for down, to keep loft and durability over time. Do not machine wash the W Pertex Reversible Tecno Down Jacket.

What about sustainability?

The down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). The Mountain Studio states that the jacket is built with responsible materials and engineered for longevity and repairability; that claim is not quantified or separately certified in the brand's material.

Down (750 fill)
Down with a 750 fill power offers high-quality insulation that suits the demands of winter sports. The high fill rating means the down retains a great amount of warmth while remaining exceptionally light and compact. This ensures a comfortable, airy feel without restricting movement on the slopes. With its natural insulating ability and easy compressibility, 750-fill down is an ideal choice for ski apparel where warmth, comfort, and performance are essential.

The Mountain Studio - Pertex
The Pertex pieces are reversible down jackets with a 20D Pertex Quantum outer, woven tightly enough to add durability without adding weight. One side is the matte technical face, with a hydrophilic membrane rated at a 15,000 mm water column for genuinely poor weather. Turn it around and the same jacket reads as a quieter city piece, which is the point of the construction.
