Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- PrimaLoft Gold Eco: 60 g body, 40 g sleeves
- 3-layer ALP-3 stretch membrane, PFAS-free
- Helmet hood, snow skirt, taped seams, pit zips
- No water column or RET figure published
- Slim cut: little room for a thick midlayer
- Fixed insulation, too warm as a spring shell
The Mountain Studio S-5 W 3L Stretch Insulated Jacket (SA-1351) is a women's insulated ski jacket built on a 3-layer ALP-3 stretch membrane with PrimaLoft Gold Eco insulation: 60 g in the body, 40 g in the sleeves. It is cut close to the body in 4-way stretch fabric, so it stays warm without the volume of a loose shell. Fully taped seams, a watertight 2-way front zipper and a snow skirt cover lift-served days and powder laps in cold winter conditions.
Who is the S-5 W 3L Stretch Insulated Jacket for?
This jacket suits a woman who skis resort terrain and drops into off-piste on cold days and wants one insulated, close-cut jacket that also works off the hill, in town or in the mountains. It also works for snowboarding. It is not the jacket for high-output uphill days: the 60 g body insulation is fixed and cannot be removed, so ventilation stops at the underarm zippers. It is also not a mild-weather or spring shell, because the insulation stays in.
How warm is this insulated ski jacket?
Warmth comes from PrimaLoft Gold Eco synthetic insulation, 55% recycled content, distributed at 60 g in the body and 40 g in the sleeves. That is moderate, cold-weather warmth: enough for chairlift laps and powder runs in winter, with the lighter sleeve fill keeping the arms mobile. Warmth can only be adjusted by what you wear underneath. The Mountain Studio does not publish a water column or breathability figure for the ALP-3 membrane, so judge the weather protection by the construction: three layers, fully taped seams and Aquaguard zippers.
Which size should you choose?
The S-5 W 3L Stretch Insulated Jacket has a tailored, slim cut with ergonomic sleeve construction and 4-way stretch fabric, sized XS to XL. No sizing recommendation is published for this style, so use the size chart and measure your chest and sleeve length before ordering. Plan for a base layer and a thin midlayer underneath; a heavy fleece or a thick down midlayer will fill the cut.
How is the ALP-3 membrane in this jacket constructed?
The Mountain Studio S-5 W 3L Stretch Insulated Jacket uses a 3-layer ALP-3 stretch membrane that is PFAS-free. Three layers means the face fabric, the membrane and the backer are bonded into one piece, which keeps the jacket quiet in movement and removes the loose inner lining you find in 2-layer builds. All seams are fully taped, and the 2-way front zipper is watertight with Aquaguard zipper technology. Inside, PrimaLoft Gold Eco synthetic insulation with 55% recycled content is mapped to the body at 60 g and the sleeves at 40 g, so the warmth sits where you lose it and the arms stay easy to move. Note that no water column value in mm and no RET or g/m2/24h breathability value is published for ALP-3.
Is the S-5 W 3L Stretch Insulated Jacket suitable for ski touring?
For lift-served skiing and off-piste descents this jacket has what the day asks for: an adjustable hood that fits over a helmet, a snow skirt for deep snow, a ski pass pocket on the sleeve, a chest pocket, two hand pockets, two inside chest pockets and an integrated chin guard. High-reach arm construction and 4-way stretch fabric keep the hem down when you pole or reach. For ski touring it reaches its limit quickly. The insulation is fixed, so on a sustained climb your only heat release is the underarm ventilation zippers, and there are no touring-specific features. No RECCO reflector is mentioned for this style. In mild or spring conditions where you want a shell without insulation, choose a different jacket.
What is it made of and how do you wash it?
The outer of the S-5 W 3L Stretch Insulated Jacket is a 4-way stretch fabric; the brand does not state its exact composition, and no lining fabric or garment weight is published. Cohaesive cord stoppers handle the adjustments, and the vertical brand logo is detachable, in line with the clean, low-logo silhouette. Machine wash at 40 °C with a mild detergent, inside out and separately, with all fasteners closed. Skip bleach and fabric softener, since softener clogs the fabric surface. Iron cool and tumble dry at low heat. No DWR treatment is specified for this style, so no re-proofing instruction is given.
What are the sustainability credentials?
Two points are documented for this women's insulated ski jacket. The PrimaLoft Gold Eco insulation is made with 55% recycled content, and the ALP-3 membrane technology is PFAS-free. The brand states the jacket is built for long-term use.
