What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 123 g and packs into its own chest pocket
- Helmet-compatible hood and harness clip-in loop
- FC0 DWR, free from intentionally added PFAS
- Not waterproof: wets through in sustained rain
- One chest pocket only, no hand pockets
- No insulation, so no warmth in winter
The Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody Women's is a 123 g packable windshell for rock climbing, hiking and trekking in changeable, breezy weather. It is built from a single layer of Tyono™ 30 nylon mini-rip at 51 g/m² with an FC0 DWR finish, so it blocks wind and sheds light rain without a membrane. The whole jacket stuffs into its own chest pocket and clips to a harness.
Who is the Squamish Hoody Women's built for?
This Arc'teryx windshell suits a climber or hiker who carries a wind layer rather than wears one all day: it lives in the pack and comes out on an exposed ridge or a breezy belay. The plain design also works as an everyday jacket. It is not a ski jacket. With no insulation, no waterproof membrane and no powder skirt, it has no role as a stand-alone outer layer on lift-served days, although it earns its weight as a wind layer on the uphill of a ski tour.
How much weather does the Squamish Hoody Women's handle?
Wind is what this jacket is for. The Tyono™ 30 face fabric is a 30D nylon mini-rip of 51 g/m² with mechanical stretch, and it is air-permeable: wind resistant rather than fully windproof, which is what keeps it breathable while you move. The FC0 DWR finish, free from intentionally added PFAS, beads light rain. It is not waterproof and has no membrane, so sustained rain will come through. There is no insulation of any kind.
Which size should you choose?
Arc'teryx cuts the Squamish Hoody Women's Fitted: close through chest, waist and hip, with articulated patterning and a low profile that goes over a t-shirt or a thin fleece and still slides under a shell. Centre back length is 64 cm in size S, and the jacket is offered here in S, M and L. Measure your chest and waist against the women's tops size chart on this page before ordering.
How is the Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody Women's constructed?
The Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody Women's is a single-layer windshell: one fabric, no membrane, no lining and no insulation, which is how the complete jacket reaches a stated 123 g. The face fabric is Tyono™ 30, a 30D nylon mini-rip of 51 g/m² with mechanical stretch, treated with an FC0 DWR finish. A helmet-compatible StormHood™, elasticated cuffs and articulated patterning handle movement and weather exposure, while the single zipped chest pocket doubles as the stuff sack: the jacket packs into it, and a reinforced clip-in loop lets you hang the packed bundle from a harness or a pack strap.
Is the Squamish Hoody Women's good for climbing and hiking?
Rock climbing and hiking are the jobs this jacket was designed around. The chest pocket on the Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody Women's stays reachable with a harness and a pack on, the StormHood™ fits over a climbing helmet, and the clip-in loop keeps the packed jacket on your harness instead of at the bottom of a bag. It stops where the weather turns serious. Prolonged rain will soak through a DWR-treated windshell, cold needs a separate insulating layer, and the jacket carries no UPF rating, so it is not a sun-protection garment. Storage is minimal too: one chest pocket and no hand pockets, which is not enough for keys and a phone at the same time.
What is the Squamish Hoody Women's made of, and how do you wash it?
The body of the Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody Women's is 100% nylon in the Tyono™ 30 mini-rip construction, 51 g/m². The mini-rip grid gives a very light fabric usable structure, but at 30D this is a lightweight shell that deserves care around sharp rock and ski edges. Machine wash on a low temperature, wash dark colours separately and give it a double rinse. Skip bleach, fabric softener, the iron and dry cleaning; tumble dry low. The Black colourway is a solid black with no contrast panelling.
How sustainable is the Squamish Hoody Women's?
The Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody Women's uses an FC0 DWR treatment that is free from intentionally added PFAS, and the garment is PFAS compliant. It is sewn in a Fair Trade Certified™ facility, MAXPORT LIMITED in Nam Dinh, Vietnam, with the fabric made and dyed in Japan. Arc'teryx discloses that the garment may release plastic microfibres into the environment during washing, which is a reason to wash it only when it needs it.
