What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Please note! After registering your return online, you have 14 days to return your parcel to the postal service. If you return the parcel after these 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return.
5. Refund
You will receive confirmation by e-mail when your return has been received and processed.
This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.
Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

- 150 g, packs into its own chest pocket
- Tyono™ 30 nylon, 51 g/m², PFAS-free DWR
- Harness-clear chest pocket plus clip-in loop
- No membrane: wets out in sustained rain
- No insulation and no hand pockets
- Fitted cut: tight over a thick midlayer
The Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody is a 150-gram men's windshell jacket for rock climbing, hiking and fast mountain travel in mild, shifting weather. It is a single layer of Tyono™ 30 nylon at 51 g/m² with a PFAS-free FC0 DWR finish: wind resistant and water repellent, with no membrane and no insulation. The whole jacket stuffs into its own zippered chest pocket and clips to a harness or a pack with a reinforced loop.
Who is the Squamish Hoody for?
The Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody suits a climber or hiker who wants a wind layer that lives permanently in the pack or on the harness and goes on over a t-shirt or a thin fleece when the breeze picks up. The chest pocket sits clear of a harness and a hipbelt, and there are no hand pockets at all, which keeps bulk down but rules the jacket out if you want somewhere to put your hands. It is not a ski jacket: no waterproofing, no insulation, no snow-specific features.
How much weather does the Squamish Hoody handle?
Wind and light moisture. The 51 g/m² Tyono™ 30 face fabric of the Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody is membrane-free and uncoated, so heat and moisture vapour escape quickly on a steep approach, while the FC0 DWR finish beads off drizzle and spray. In sustained rain the fabric will wet out, and a GORE-TEX shell is the better tool. Warmth comes entirely from what you wear underneath. The helmet-compatible StormHood™ pulls over a climbing helmet.
Which size should you choose?
Arc'teryx cuts the Squamish Hoody in its Fitted pattern: close through chest, waist and hip, with articulated sleeves and a centre back length of 76 cm in size M. It is sized to go over first layers or under an outer layer. Over a thick insulated midlayer the Fitted cut runs out of room, so take the larger of two sizes if that is your plan. Compare your chest measurement with the Arc'teryx men's tops size chart on this page. Offered here in M, L and XL.
How is the Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody constructed?
The Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody is built from one fabric and very little else. Tyono™ 30 is a nylon mini-rip weave of 51 g/m² with mechanical stretch, meaning the give comes from the weave rather than from added elastane. There is no lining and no membrane, which is why the complete jacket weighs 150 g and compresses to the size of its own chest pocket. Articulated patterning through the shoulders and sleeves lets the jacket follow a reach without lifting the hem, and elasticized cuffs seal the sleeve ends without hardware. The single zippered chest pocket doubles as the stuff sack; a reinforced clip-in loop then attaches the packed jacket to a harness or a haul loop. The front zip pull sits on the right-hand side.
Is the Squamish Hoody suitable for climbing and hiking?
Those are exactly the two things it was drawn for. On rock, the chest pocket of the Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody stays reachable with a harness and a pack on, the StormHood™ fits over a climbing helmet, and the jacket goes on at a belay and disappears again on the next pitch. On the trail it works as the layer you pull on at a windy col over a t-shirt or a thin fleece and take off ten minutes later. Where it stops is clear: no insulation, so it is not a standalone cold-weather layer; no membrane, so hours of rain will soak it; and no snow features, so it has no place as a ski or snowboard jacket. It also carries no UPF rating, so pair it with a sun-protective base layer if that matters on glacier or desert days.
What is the Squamish Hoody made of and how do you wash it?
The body of the Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody is 100% nylon. A 51 g/m² mini-rip weave is thin by nature, so the jacket rewards being treated as a technical wind layer rather than a workwear shell: keep it off sharp rock edges where you can. Machine wash it on a low setting with dark colours separated, run a double rinse so no detergent residue is left in the fabric, and tumble dry low. Skip fabric softener, bleach, the iron and dry cleaning, all of which degrade the FC0 DWR finish. The Black colourway is a solid, flat black with no contrast panelling.
How sustainable is the Squamish Hoody?
The Arc'teryx Squamish Hoody is sewn in a Fair Trade Certified™ facility in Bangladesh. Its FC0 DWR treatment is PFAS compliant and free from intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, so the water repellency does not rely on that chemistry. As with any synthetic garment, washing can release plastic microfibres, which is one more reason to wash it only when it needs it.
