What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 130 g and packs into its own chest pocket
- 2-way stretch woven with raglan sleeves
- Hood adjusts with one hand, on the move
- Water repellent only, not for sustained rain
- No insulation or lining: wind layer, no warmth
- One chest pocket, no hand pockets
The Peak Performance Vislight Wind Jacket Women is a 130-gram packable wind jacket for fast, active days: trail running, hiking, cycling and quick mountain outings. It is built from a lightweight 2-way stretch woven fabric (89% polyamide, 11% elastane) that is water repellent and wind resistant, with no membrane and no insulation. The jacket folds into its own zippered chest pocket, or into the hood, so it lives in your pack until the wind turns.
Who is this wind jacket for?
The Vislight Wind Jacket Women suits a woman who moves at speed and wants a thin outer layer to pull over a base layer or midlayer on cool, breezy days. It also works as the windshell you carry on a ski tour or an alpine approach. It is not the jacket for lift-served or off-piste skiing as your outer shell: there is no powder skirt, no pit zips, no wrist gaiters, no hand pockets and no helmet-compatible hood stated for this style. It is not a rain jacket either.
How much weather protection do you get?
This is wind protection rather than waterproofing. The stretch woven face fabric is windbreaking and carries a water-repellent treatment, which deals with wind and short spells of drizzle or blowing snow. Sustained rain or wet snow will eventually soak through. With no insulation and no lining, the 130-gram Vislight Wind Jacket Women adds no warmth of its own: it keeps the warmth of the layers underneath by blocking the wind, while the uncoated, air-permeable fabric stays breathable when you work hard.
Which size should you choose?
The Vislight Wind Jacket Women has a regular fit and is cut to slip over other layers, so take your usual size with a base layer or a thin midlayer underneath. It is offered in S, M and L. Use the size chart on this page to compare your measurements before you order.
How is the Peak Performance Vislight Wind Jacket Women constructed?
The Vislight Wind Jacket Women is a single-layer woven jacket: no membrane, no laminate, no lining. The protection comes from the fabric itself, a tightly woven polyamide and elastane blend that breaks the wind while remaining air permeable, finished with a water-repellent treatment on the face. Raglan sleeves keep the shoulders free when you reach, pole or ride, and the 2-way stretch follows the movement instead of pulling at the hem. The fixed hood is adjusted with one hand, so you can tighten it mid-stride without stopping. An elastic hem with silicone dots and elastic cuffs seal the openings against draughts. The whole jacket weighs 130 grams and packs into the zippered chest pocket or into the hood.
Does the Vislight Wind Jacket Women work for ski touring and hiking?
On a ski tour or an alpine approach, this Peak Performance wind jacket is the layer you carry rather than the layer you climb in from the start: it goes on at an exposed ridge, on a windy summit or on a cold descent to the car, over a base layer or midlayer. For hiking, trail running and cycling it does the same job on cool, gusty days, and the quick-dry fabric means it does not stay clammy after a hard effort. Where it stops is clear. There is one zippered chest pocket and no hand pockets, so gloves and a phone need to go elsewhere. There are no ventilation zips, so the fabric's own air permeability is the only way to dump heat. And the 130-gram stretch fabric has no stated abrasion reinforcement, so a heavy pack worn over it for hours is asking more of the jacket than it is built for.
What is the Vislight Wind Jacket Women made of and how do you wash it?
Both shell panels are 89% polyamide and 11% elastane. Polyamide gives the tear strength and the quick-dry behaviour; the elastane is what creates the 2-way stretch and the recovery, so the jacket keeps its shape after being stuffed into its own chest pocket again and again. Wash it cold at 30 °C with similar colours, with the zippers closed, and use a technical detergent rather than a standard one: ordinary detergent and fabric softener leave residues that smother the water-repellent treatment. Skip the softener entirely, do not bleach and do not dry clean. Tumble dry on low or line drip dry in the shade, and take the jacket out as soon as the cycle ends so the elastic hem and cuffs are not left creased. If the fabric starts wetting out on the shoulders, a low tumble-dry cycle usually revives the finish. Iron cool if needed; professional wet cleaning on a mild process is also suitable.
