What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.

Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

The Peak Performance Women Treeline Shell Jacket is an uninsulated 2.5-layer waterproof shell jacket built around the brand's own HIPE® membrane, made as year-round wind and rain protection for hiking, travel and everyday outdoor use. It has a relaxed cut and a fixed hood that adjusts in two directions with one hand. There is no insulation and no ski-specific hardware, so this is a rain shell rather than a resort jacket.

Who is the Treeline Shell Jacket for?

It suits a woman who wants one light, relaxed-fitting waterproof shell for hiking, travel and daily wear, and who layers underneath instead of relying on the jacket for warmth. It is also a sensible emergency rain layer to carry on spring and autumn mountain walks. It is not the jacket for resort skiing: the Peak Performance Treeline Shell Jacket has no powder skirt, no insulated lining and no ski-specific pockets. For off-piste and freeride use, look to a jacket with a RECCO® reflector.

How weatherproof is the Treeline Shell Jacket?

Protection comes from a 2.5-layer HIPE® fabric: a waterproof, windproof membrane with a laminated inner backer instead of a lining, finished with a PFC-free Durable Water Repellent treatment that makes rain bead on the face fabric. The full front closure uses a YKK AquaGuard® coil zipper, and the hood has a laminated brim that keeps rain off your face. There is no underarm ventilation, so on steep, high-output climbs you will need to open the front zip and manage your pace.

Which size should you choose in the Treeline Shell Jacket?

The Peak Performance Women Treeline Shell Jacket has a relaxed fit, so a fleece or light midlayer fits underneath in your normal size. It comes in S, M and L only. Compare your own chest and hip measurements with the size chart on this page before ordering.

How is the Peak Performance Treeline Shell Jacket built?

The jacket uses a 2.5-layer HIPE® construction. HIPE® is Peak Performance's own waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane; in a 2.5-layer build it is bonded to the face fabric and protected on the inside by a printed or laminated backer rather than a separate lining. That keeps the jacket light and compact enough to carry as a just-in-case layer, and it is the main reason the Treeline packs down more readily than a three-layer shell. The trade-off is comfort and durability: a backer sits less pleasantly against bare skin than a knitted liner, and it is the least abrasion-resistant of the common shell constructions.

Is the Treeline Shell Jacket right for hiking?

Yes, that is what it is made for. On a hiking day the Peak Performance Women Treeline Shell Jacket handles wind on exposed ridges and rain showers on the way down, with a hood you can tighten for height and width one-handed while the other hand stays on a pole. The hem drawcord seals out wind when the weather turns, and the velcro sleeve adjusters close over gloves or open up when you warm up. Zippered hidden hand pockets take a phone and a hat. Where it stops: with no insulation, standing still in the cold means adding layers underneath, and with no pit zips, heat builds on long uphill efforts. For climbing with a loaded pack or any route with rock contact, choose a heavier three-layer shell.

What should you know about the fabric and looking after it?

The shell of the Peak Performance Treeline Shell Jacket is a technical 2.5-layer HIPE® fabric with a PFC-free Durable Water Repellent finish on the outside. Keep the inner backer away from sharp pack frames and rough rock, since this is the surface that wears first on any 2.5-layer jacket. The hardware is chosen to last in the same way: a YKK AquaGuard® coil zipper on the front closure and a hanger loop on the outside of the neck so the jacket dries hanging rather than bundled in a pack.

What makes this a more responsible choice?

The water-repellent finish on the Peak Performance Women Treeline Shell Jacket is PFC-free, so the beading on the face fabric is achieved without per- and polyfluorinated chemicals. It fits the way Peak Performance approaches its shells: fewer features, built to be kept and used across seasons.
