Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

- 700 fill power down, packs into its side pocket
- Hood adjusts two ways: height and width
- Wears alone or as warm layer under a shell
- Water-repellent only, no membrane for rain
- Only offered in S, M and L
- Quilted down breathes less than active fleece
The Peak Performance Women Graphic Helium Utility Down is a lightweight, packable hooded down jacket filled with 700 fill power duck down in a 90/10 down/feather blend, built for cold and dry conditions. It is made to work two ways: as a jacket on its own, or as the warm layer under a ski shell. The black colourway carries a seasonal all-over print over the quilted Helium pattern.
Who is this down jacket for?
This is for a woman who wants one light down layer that covers both a cold town day and a day on the mountain under a shell. The Peak Performance Women Graphic Helium Utility Down packs into its side pocket, so it travels as an extra-warmth layer for touring and winter hiking stops. It is not the jacket for sustained rain or wet snow, and it is not meant to be your only outer layer in a storm.
How warm and how weatherproof is it?
Warmth comes from 700 fill power duck down, a loft figure that gives a high warmth-to-weight ratio for a jacket this light. The shell is wind- and water-repellent with a PFC-free Durable Water Repellent finish, which handles dry snow and short showers. It is not a waterproof shell: there is no membrane and no seam sealing, so in steady rain the down can soak and lose loft. Keep a hardshell over the top when the weather turns.
Which size should you choose?
The Peak Performance Women Graphic Helium Utility Down comes in S, M and L. Use the size chart on this page and compare your chest and hip measurements with the table before you order, rather than going by your usual size alone. If you plan to wear it mainly under a ski shell, check that your shell has room over a quilted down layer; if you plan to wear it over a midlayer as your outer jacket, take the larger of two sizes you fall between. The hem drawcord and the sleeve hems with cord stoppers let you close the jacket down once you have the right size.
How is the Peak Performance Helium Utility Down built?
The warmth in this hooded down jacket comes from duck down at 700 fill power, blended 90/10 down to feather. The down sits in a quilted construction in the Helium pattern, which holds the fill in place so it does not shift to the hem. The face fabric is downproof and treated with a PFC-free Durable Water Repellent finish, so light snow beads up instead of wetting out the quilting. Because the jacket compresses into its side pocket, it travels in a daypack rather than taking up a jacket's worth of space.
Is it suitable for skiing and ski touring?
On the resort, the Peak Performance Women Graphic Helium Utility Down works as the warm layer under a hardshell on cold, dry days, with the fixed hood either worn inside the shell or left as your only hood on the chairlift ride. For ski touring it is a stop-and-start layer: put it on at the top, at the transition or at a break, and carry it on the climb, because quilted down with a downproof face fabric moves far less moisture than an active fleece or a synthetic midlayer. Where it stops is wet weather. With no water column and no seam sealing, this is not the garment to ski in through wet snow or rain.
What do the hood and pockets do in use?
The hood is fixed and adjusts two ways, in height and in width, so you can pull it close around a beanie or open it up over a helmet-free head and still keep it out of your sightline. A chinguard sits at the top of the main zip to keep the slider off your skin. There are two zippered hand pockets and a zippered chest pocket for a phone, a pass or a pair of liner gloves, and a hanger loop inside the neck for drying the jacket at the end of the day. Both sleeve hems close with a cord stopper, and the bottom hem runs on an adjustable drawcord to seal out draughts.
How responsible is the down?
The down in this Peak Performance down jacket is certified to the Responsible Down Standard and is fully traceable through the Track My Down® program, so the supply chain behind the fill is documented rather than assumed. The water-repellent finish is PFC-free. Down is also the part of the jacket that rewards care most: keeping the quilting dry and letting it loft again after compression is what keeps the warmth you paid for.
