What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

The Peak Performance Women Argon Hybrid Hood is a lightweight insulated hooded jacket for women, built to work either as a light outer layer in cool, dry weather or as an insulating mid layer under a shell jacket. The quilted body carries recycled synthetic free fiber insulation inside woven channels instead of stitched baffles, so no seams run through the insulated panels. Sleeves and side panels are brushed-back polyester fleece, which adds stretch and airflow where you move most.

Who is the Argon Hybrid Hood for?

This jacket suits a woman who wants one light, stretchy insulating layer that covers both jobs: worn on its own on cool hiking and everyday days, and worn under a shell when the weather turns. It is also a sensible ski touring mid layer. It is not a resort ski jacket: there is no powder skirt, no ski-pass pocket and no RECCO reflector. If you want a jacket for standing still in deep cold, or protection in sustained rain or storm wind, choose a heavier insulated jacket or a hardshell jacket instead.

How warm and how weatherproof is it?

Warmth comes from a light recycled free fiber fill in the quilted body only; the knit sleeves and side panels are uninsulated by construction, which keeps the jacket breathable and quick drying but limits it to active use around cool temperatures. A PFC-free DWR finish makes the woven quilt water repellent and wind resistant, not waterproof and not windproof, and the fabric is deliberately air permeable. Showers and spindrift are fine; heavy rain and wet snow are not.

Which size should you choose?

The Argon Hybrid Hood comes in S, M, L and XL. Use the Peak Performance women's size chart on this page to pick your size from your chest measurement. The stretch sleeves and side panels follow the body closely, so the jacket layers easily over a base layer. If you plan to wear it under a shell, check the fit of that shell first, since the fixed hood adds volume at the neck.

How is the Argon Hybrid Hood constructed?

The Peak Performance Women Argon Hybrid Hood uses a seamless woven quilt for the body: the recycled synthetic free fiber insulation sits inside channels woven into the shell fabric, held in place without any stitching. That removes the needle holes and quilt seams that normally run across an insulated jacket, and keeps the fill evenly distributed. The hybrid half of the design is the knit construction on the sleeves and side panels, made from a soft, midweight polyester fleece with a brushed back. A PFC-free Durable Water Repellent treatment on the woven quilt makes it extra wind and water resistant, and the whole jacket packs down for transport.

Is it suitable for ski touring and hiking?

As a ski touring mid layer the Argon Hybrid Hood does the job it was designed for: the air-permeable quilt and the fleece panels dump heat on the climb, the fill keeps you warm through short stops, and it dries quickly after a sweaty ascent. On hiking and trekking days in cool, dry to showery weather it works as the outer layer, with the fixed hood and chinguard taking the edge off wind and drizzle. Where it stops is clear enough: this Peak Performance hooded jacket is wind resistant rather than windproof, and the knit sleeves and side panels offer no meaningful wind or water protection. Once it rains properly, or once the wind gets up on an exposed ridge, you need a shell over it.

What is it made of and how do you look after it?

The body of the Peak Performance Women Argon Hybrid Hood is a light woven quilt with recycled free fiber insulation in the channels, and the sleeves and side panels are brushed-back polyester fleece. Practical details are kept simple: a reversed YKK coil zipper at the front, a chinguard at the top of it, two zippered hand pockets, elastic binding at the hem, cuffs and hood edge, and a hanger loop on the outside of the neck. Wash it as a technical insulated garment, with a mild detergent and no fabric softener, so the water-repellent finish on the quilt keeps working. Check the care label sewn into the jacket before the first wash.

What makes this a more responsible choice?

Two things are concrete here. The insulation is recycled synthetic free fiber and recycled fibers are used in the garment, and the water-repellent treatment is PFC-free, so the finish does not rely on added fluorocarbons. Peak Performance builds the Argon line around light, packable insulation that stays in use for years, which is the other half of the argument.
