What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • Separate compartment for shovel, probe, beacon
  • A-frame, diagonal and snowboard carry in one pack
  • 28.5 L with side and back access to main section
  • One back length only: S/M
  • 1223 g: not a fast-and-light touring pack
  • No airbag system, and safety gear not included

The Peak Performance Vertical Ski Backpack S/M is a 28.5 litre ski backpack with a separate compartment for snow safety gear, so a shovel, probe and transceiver stay apart from your spare layer and food. It carries skis in an A-frame or diagonally, takes a snowboard, and holds a helmet on the outside. Weight is 1223 g in the single S/M back length.

Who is the Vertical Ski Backpack S/M for?

This pack is for skiers and snowboarders on single-day tours or lift-accessed off-piste days who want their avalanche gear in a dedicated compartment and their skis or board on the outside. It is not a choice for hut-to-hut or multi-day trips, where 28.5 litres runs out quickly, and it is not an avalanche airbag pack: the safety compartment is a compartment only, and no equipment comes with it. Technical alpine climbing is outside its scope too, since it offers no dedicated rope or ice-axe attachment.

How much gear fits in 28.5 litres?

The Peak Performance Vertical Ski Backpack measures 49 x 27.5 x 20.5 cm and opens from both the side and the back, so you can reach the bottom of the main compartment without unpacking the top. The waist belt carries zippered pockets for small items, and a whistle sits on the sternum strap. Treat it as water-resistant rather than waterproof: there is no sealed, membrane-based construction here, so anything that has to stay dry belongs in a dry bag.

Which size should you choose?

This article comes in one back length, S/M, listed as one size. The shoulder straps adjust and the waist belt takes the load onto your hips. If you have a notably long back, compare the 49 cm pack height with a pack you already carry before ordering, because no longer back length is offered in this style.

How does the Peak Performance Vertical Ski Backpack carry skis, a board and a helmet?

The Peak Performance Vertical Ski Backpack S/M gives you three carry modes on one pack: A-frame ski carry for skinning and bootpacking, diagonal ski carry for short carries and steeper ground, and a snowboard carry for board and splitboard days. A helmet carry system keeps the lid on the outside instead of eating into the 28.5 litre main compartment. The closures run on YKK reversed coil zips, and the shoulder straps adjust so the load can be set on a shorter or longer upper body within the S/M back length.

Is the Vertical Ski Backpack suitable for day touring and sidecountry skiing?

Day touring and lift-accessed off-piste are what this 28.5 litre ski backpack is built around. The separate snow safety gear compartment means a wet shovel blade, probe and transceiver go in and come out without digging past your jacket, and the side and back openings let you reach a mid layer or your lunch at a transition without emptying the pack. Where it stops is equally clear: 28.5 litres is a day volume, not an overnight one, and at 1223 g it is a mid-weight pack rather than a stripped-down, fast-and-light setup. For resort days it also works as straightforward transport for skis, helmet and gear between the car and the lift.

What is the Peak Performance Vertical Ski Backpack made of and how do you clean it?

The shell uses a combination of fabrics: 100% polyamide, 100% polyester and a stretch panel fabric of 92% polyamide with 8% elastane. Polyamide takes the abrasion of ski edges and granite, polyester holds its shape, and the elastane content allows the stretch sections to move with the load. Care is the usual routine for technical luggage rather than for clothing: do not put the pack in a washing machine. Wipe it with a damp cloth instead, skip bleach and the tumble dryer, and hang it to dry in the shade so the fabrics and coatings are not cooked in direct sun. Do not iron it, and leave dry cleaning and professional wet cleaning alone. In practice that means emptying the pack after every tour, brushing out snow and grit from the safety compartment, and letting it dry open rather than closed.

What should you know before you order the Vertical Ski Backpack S/M?

Two points decide most orders. First, back length: S/M is the only version of this article, so very long backs are better served elsewhere. Second, protection: this is a carrying pack, with no airbag system, and nothing in it is sealed against sustained rain. Within those limits you get a 28.5 litre day pack in Ombre Blue or Black with a dedicated compartment for avalanche equipment and three ways to strap your skis or board to the outside.
