What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Peak Performance Ridge HIPE® ACE 3L Shell Jacket Women is an uninsulated three-layer hardshell jacket with a 20,000 mm water column, 20,000 g/m2/24h breathability and fully sealed seams. It is built for moving fast and sweating in wet, windy mountain weather — hiking, ski touring, climbing — and carries no insulation at all. HIPE® ACE is Peak Performance's own membrane, bonded between a 40D ripstop face fabric and a soft tricot backer.

Who is the Ridge HIPE® ACE 3L Shell Jacket for?

It suits a woman who works uphill and wants one fully waterproof shell to pull over her own layers instead of an insulated ski jacket. The hood fits over a climbing or bike helmet, and the RECCO® reflector covers winter terrain. It is the wrong choice if you want warmth from the jacket itself, a close-fitting cut, or a resort jacket with a powder skirt, ski pass pocket and inner goggle pocket — none of those are part of this jacket.

How waterproof and breathable is the Ridge HIPE® ACE 3L?

The three-layer HIPE® ACE laminate is rated at 20,000 mm water column and 20,000 g/m2/24h moisture transport, and every seam is sealed. In practice that means sustained rain and wet snow stay out while sweat vapour keeps moving during climbs. Venting runs through the two-way YKK AquaGuard® front zipper, which you can open from the hem; there are no pit zips.

Which size should you choose in the Ridge HIPE® ACE 3L Shell Jacket?

The cut is relaxed and roomy, with space for a base layer and a mid layer underneath. Order your usual size and check the Peak Performance size chart before you decide. The sleeve hems close with velcro straps and the bottom hem has a drawcord, so you can tighten the silhouette. This jacket is currently offered in S and M only.

How is the Ridge HIPE® ACE 3L Shell Jacket Women built?

Three bonded layers do the work in the Peak Performance Ridge HIPE® ACE 3L Shell Jacket Women. The outside is a 40D lightweight ripstop woven from 53% recycled polyamide and 47% polyamide. Behind it sits the HIPE® ACE membrane layer, 100% polypropylene, rated at 20,000 mm and 20,000 g/m2/24h. The inner face is a soft tricot backer in 100% polyester, laminated to the membrane rather than hung in as a separate lining, so there is no loose fabric to stick to a damp base layer. All seams are taped, and the full-length front closes with a two-way YKK AquaGuard® zipper. The fixed hood adjusts in width with a one-way pull and has a laminated brim with a plastic wire you can shape.

Is the Ridge HIPE® ACE 3L Shell Jacket suitable for ski touring?

Yes, as the outer shell of a layered system. On a tour or a winter hike you climb with the two-way zipper open and the hood down, then close everything at the top: taped seams and a 20,000 mm membrane handle wind-driven snow and rain, and the RECCO® Rescue System reflector is built in. Where the Peak Performance Ridge HIPE® ACE 3L Shell Jacket stops is static cold — with no insulation, the warmth has to come from what you wear underneath. It also stops at lift-served powder days, because there is no powder skirt, no ski pass pocket and no inner goggle pocket; storage is two zippered hand pockets plus an inner mesh stash pocket. The 40D ripstop is chosen for low weight, so treat rock, rails and sharp edges with care.

What are the materials and how do you wash it?

The face fabric is a ripstop polyamide, just over half of it recycled, with a water-repellent finish that is not fluorinated. Machine wash at 40°C on a delicate cycle with liquid detergent, close all zippers first and rinse twice. Skip fabric softener, bleach and dry cleaning. The one step most people miss matters here: iron on low or tumble dry on low heat after washing to reactivate the water-repellent treatment, otherwise the face fabric starts to wet out even though the membrane still works. Flat dry in the shade and keep the iron off any prints.

What makes this a more responsible choice?

The Ridge HIPE® ACE 3L Shell Jacket Women is made without intentionally added PFAS, and the face fabric contains 53% recycled polyamide.

3L
3L
3L refers to a three-layer construction in which the outer fabric, membrane, and a thin backer layer are combined into one unified layer. This design offers excellent protection against wind and water while maintaining high breathability. Because 3L is unlined, it feels light and flexible and functions as a versatile shell that allows your warmth and comfort to be determined by the layers you wear underneath. As a result, 3L provides a well-balanced combination of protection, freedom of movement, and comfort in winter conditions.
Peak Performance
Peak Performance began in 1986 in Åre, Sweden, where a group of ski enthusiasts decided to create ski clothing that was as stylish as it was functional. The brand is known for minimalist Scandinavian design and technical innovation. What once started as a local project is now a world leader in outdoor clothing, with products that combine sustainability and performance.
