What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 86% recycled polyester with 4-way stretch
  • Full-length reversed YKK coil zip lies flat
  • High-fitting single layer hood, low bulk
  • No membrane: needs a shell in rain or wind
  • No insulation fill, too light for standing still
  • No powder skirt, pit zips or RECCO reflector

The Peak Performance Rider Tech Zip Hood Men is a hooded fleece midlayer jacket in 86% recycled polyester with 14% elastane, built to sit between your base layer and your shell on ski days. The brushed-back face and 4-way stretch make it a moving layer rather than a bulky one, and it weighs 638 g. It has a full-length reversed YKK coil zip, two zippered hand pockets and a high-fitting single layer hood.

Who is this fleece midlayer for?

The Rider Tech Zip Hood Men suits a skier or mountain walker who already owns a waterproof outer layer and wants a stretchy hooded fleece underneath it. It also works on its own for hiking, travel and dry, mild days. It is not an outer layer: with no membrane and no stated wind protection, rain, wet snow and open wind need a shell over the top.

How warm is the Rider Tech Zip Hood Men?

Warmth comes from the fleece itself, not from an insulation fill. That makes this a light, active-use layer: it keeps working while you are moving, and it needs a jacket over it once you stop in the cold or sit on a windy chairlift. The brushed-back fleece sits against the skin or over a base layer, and the 4-way stretch fabric follows arm and shoulder movement instead of resisting it.

Which size should you choose?

Peak Performance gives the Rider Tech Zip Hood Men a regular cut: close enough to layer under a ski shell, wide enough to wear over a base layer without pulling. It runs from S to 2XL. Check your chest measurement against the size chart on this page before ordering, and take the larger size if you are between two and want room for a heavier base layer. Elastic at the back hem keeps the jacket from riding up.

How is the Rider Tech Zip Hood Men built?

The Peak Performance Rider Tech Zip Hood Men uses a single lightweight recycled fleece fabric with a brushed back and 4-way stretch in all directions. There is no membrane and no laminate in the construction, so nothing blocks air or moisture vapour from passing through the fabric; the trade-off is that nothing blocks wind or water either. The front closes with a reversed YKK coil zipper over the full length, which lies flatter under a shell than a standard coil. Two zippered hand pockets in 100% polyester hold small items, and a Peak Performance elastic band at the back bottom hem keeps the jacket in place when you bend forward. The hood is a single layer, which keeps volume low around the neck.

Is the Rider Tech Zip Hood Men suitable for skiing?

Yes, as a midlayer. The manufacturer places the Rider Tech Zip Hood Men in the midlayer position, worn over a base layer and under a shell, and that is where it does its job: resort days, ski touring ascents and any activity where you generate heat and want a stretch layer that moves with you. On dry, mild days it works as a standalone jacket for hiking or walking into town. It stops where ski-specific hardware starts. There is no powder skirt, no armhole ventilation and no RECCO reflector, the seams are not sealed, and the hood is not built around a helmet. For lift-served days in deep cold or in weather, pair it with an insulated or waterproof jacket.

What is the fabric, and how do you wash it?

The shell is 86% recycled polyester with 14% elastane. The polyester carries the abrasion resistance and the fast drying behaviour, the elastane gives the 4-way stretch and pulls the fabric back into shape after repeated days of use. Pocket bags are 100% polyester. Wash the Rider Tech Zip Hood Men inside out at 40 °C with similar colours and close the zippers first, so the zipper teeth do not catch the brushed fleece face. Do not use bleach, do not iron and do not dry clean. Tumble dry on low, or line dry in the shade to protect the fibres and the colour. Both colourways, Black and Infinity Teel, are cared for the same way.

What makes this a more responsible choice?

The fabric is partly recycled: 86% of the shell is recycled polyester, which reduces the share of virgin fibre in the main fabric of the garment. Peak Performance builds the Rider line for repeated hard use, and a stretch fleece that keeps its shape stays in rotation for years rather than seasons.
