What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 86% recycled polyester stretch knit, dries fast
  • 3/4 leg ends above the boot, so nothing bunches
  • Sewn-in elastic waistband sits flat under pants
  • No insulation: warmth comes from the fabric only
  • Next-to-skin cut, not for pulling over trousers
  • No pockets, zips or ankle closures

The Peak Performance Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants are men's stretch midlayer pants in a 3/4 leg length, made to be worn under ski pants or a shell. The leg stops above the ski boot on purpose, so no fabric bunches inside the boot cuff when you buckle up. The knit is 86% recycled polyester with 14% elastane, so it stretches with every stride, wicks moisture and dries quickly.

Who are the Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants for?

These Peak Performance midlayer pants are for skiers who want a close-fitting, fast-drying layer between skin and ski pants, in the resort as well as in the backcountry. They also work for ski touring, hiking and other aerobic days out. They are not an outer layer: no membrane, no water column and no wind protection, so snow, rain and wind pass straight through. They are also not the pants to pull on over another pair of trousers, because the cut sits directly against the body.

How warm are the Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants?

Warmth in the Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants comes from the fabric alone, since there is no insulation in them. The 86% recycled polyester and 14% elastane knit adds a thin, elastic layer that moves sweat away from the skin and dries fast after a hard climb, which is what keeps you from chilling on the descent. Treat them as a layering piece rather than a garment that keeps you warm while standing still in deep cold.

Which size should you choose in the Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants?

The cut is next to skin: slim through the hip, thigh and calf, with sewn-in elastic at the waistband instead of a belt or closure. Available in S, M, L and XL. Use the size chart on this page to compare your waist and inseam before you order, and take your usual close-fitting layer size if you want the stretch knit to sit flat. Wear them over or instead of a base layer, and always under ski or shell pants.

How are the Peak Performance Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants constructed?

The Peak Performance Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants are built as a single-layer stretch knit with no membrane and no separate lining. The whole garment is 86% recycled polyester and 14% elastane, which gives the fabric enough recovery to follow deep knee flexion without pulling at the waist or sagging at the back of the knee. Elastic is sewn into the waistband, so the pants stay put under a pair of ski pants without a drawcord or a closure to sit under a hip belt. The 3/4 leg is the defining piece of the construction: it ends above the ski boot, where a full-length layer would otherwise fold and press against the shin.

Are the Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants suitable for ski touring?

Yes. Ski touring is exactly where the moisture-wicking, quick-drying knit of the Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants earns its place: you sweat on the way up, and a thin stretch layer that dries fast is less chilling than a damp one at the transition. The same applies to hiking and other sustained aerobic activity. Where they stop is equally clear. There are no pockets, no zips, no ventilation and no ankle closures, so nothing can be vented or carried in them, and they offer no protection on their own in snow, rain or wind. Below the knee you are relying entirely on your ski pants and boots.

What are the Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants made of and how do you care for them?

The shell fabric of the Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants is 86% recycled polyester with 14% elastane. Polyester is what makes the knit dry quickly and hold its shape after repeated wash cycles; the elastane is what gives it the stretch, and it is also the component that dislikes heat. Machine wash at 40 degrees Celsius, inside out and with similar colours. Skip fabric softener, which leaves a residue on synthetic fibres, and skip bleach. Tumble dry on low heat or line dry in the shade. Do not iron, do not dry clean and do not have them professionally wet cleaned. Washing them after a few ski days keeps the fabric moving moisture the way it should.

How sustainable are the Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants?

Two concrete points. The shell of the Peak Performance Rider Essentials 3/4 Midlayer Pants contains 86% recycled polyester, and the pants are made without intentionally added PFAS. Because this is a next-to-skin layering garment rather than a weather layer, there is no water-repellent finish on the fabric that would need replacing over its life.
