What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 325 gsm pile with soft jersey inside
- Windproof 42 gsm 20D ripstop panels
- Both shells 100% recycled, no added PFAS
- No membrane and no hood: not a rain layer
- 325 gsm pile adds bulk under a slim shell
- Elastic binding only: no hem or cuff adjust
The Peak Performance NatureRush Pile Zip Jacket is a men's pile fleece midlayer that works as a standalone jacket in dry, cool weather and goes under a shell when conditions turn. The body is a midweight 325 gsm pile with a soft jersey surface on the inside, combined with panels of lightweight 42 gsm 20D ripstop that block wind and shed light rain. Regular fit, full-front two-way YKK Vislon® zipper, no hood.
Who is the NatureRush Pile Zip Jacket for?
This Peak Performance pile jacket suits you if you want one warm, casual layer for cool-weather walks, travel and town that can also sit under a ski jacket on the mountain. It is less suited to high-output aerobic days: at 325 gsm the pile is warmer, bulkier and slower to dry than a thin grid fleece. It is also not an outer layer for sustained rain or wet snow, and it has no hood, so head protection has to come from elsewhere.
How warm is the NatureRush Pile Zip Jacket?
Warmth in the NatureRush Pile Zip Jacket comes from the fabric itself rather than from a separate insulation fill: 325 gsm pile traps air across the body, with a soft jersey back against your base layer. The 42 gsm 20D ripstop panels add wind protection, but only where they sit; the pile areas are not windproof, so in cold wind you will want a shell over the top. Elastic binding at the collar, centre front zipper, cuffs and bottom hem keeps warm air from escaping.
Which size should you choose?
The NatureRush Pile Zip Jacket is cut as a regular fit with a relaxed silhouette and a dropped hem, sized to be worn over a base layer or under a shell jacket. Sizes run S to 2XL, with PINE NEEDLE offered in S to XL. Compare the size chart on this page with your chest measurement before ordering, and bear in mind that a midweight pile adds noticeable bulk under a close-cut shell.
How is the NatureRush Pile Zip Jacket constructed?
Peak Performance builds this jacket from two fabrics rather than a fleece plus an insulation fill. Shell 1 is a midweight 325 gsm pile with a soft jersey inside, which carries the warmth. Shell 2 is a lightweight 42 gsm 20D ripstop, used as panelling where wind hits hardest; that ripstop is windproof and repels light rain. The pieces are joined with narrow flatlock covering seams, which lie flat under a shell jacket and under a pack strap. The front opens on a full-front two-way YKK Vislon® zipper, so you can vent from the hem while the collar stays closed.
Can you ski in the NatureRush Pile Zip Jacket?
As a midlayer, yes: the NatureRush Pile Zip Jacket is designed to be worn under a ski or shell jacket, and the stand-up collar and flat seams keep it comfortable there. On its own it belongs to dry, cool days — hiking and trail walking in cool weather, travel, the drive to the hill, and after skiing. It stops where the weather gets wet or properly windy. There is no membrane, no stated water column and no taped seams, so sustained rain or wet snow calls for a hardshell over the top. The hem and cuffs are finished with elastic binding only, without a drawcord or adjustable cuffs, so you cannot cinch it down in a gale.
What is the NatureRush Pile Zip Jacket made of and how do you wash it?
Shell 1 is 100% recycled polyester and Shell 2 is 100% recycled polyamide, the latter in a 20D ripstop weave that resists snagging on branches and pack buckles. Both wash easily: machine wash at 40°C on a delicate cycle with similar colours, zippers closed, no bleach and no ironing. Tumble drying on low is allowed, and line drying in the shade keeps the pile surface in better shape over time. Dry cleaning and professional wet cleaning are not suitable for this jacket. Expect the pile to take longer to dry than a thin fleece after a wash or a sweaty day.
How sustainable is this Peak Performance jacket?
Both face fabrics of the NatureRush Pile Zip Jacket are fully recycled — 100% recycled polyester for the pile, 100% recycled polyamide for the ripstop — and the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS.
