What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • Light pile, 100% recycled polyester shell
  • 2-way YKK Vislon zipper, three zipped pockets
  • Elastic cuffs with thumbholes stay put
  • No membrane: not for rain or wet snow
  • 660 g and bulky, heavy for ski touring
  • No hood, only a stand-up collar

The Peak Performance Men Pile Zip Jacket is a pile fleece midlayer with a soft jersey back, made from 100% recycled polyester. It is built for everyday cold weather and as a layer under a ski shell, not as weather protection: there is no membrane and no waterproof or windproof construction. Three zipped pockets and thumbhole cuffs make it as useful in town as on the hill.

Who is the Men Pile Zip Jacket for?

This Peak Performance pile jacket suits you if you want a soft zip-through layer for town, travel and après-ski that can double as a midlayer under a ski shell. Skip it if you need an outer layer in rain or wet snow, if you ski in exposed wind without a shell over the top, or if you count grams for ski touring: at 660 g the pile jacket is heavy and bulky for a midlayer. It also has no hood, only a stand-up collar.

How warm is the Peak Performance Men Pile Zip Jacket?

Warmth comes from a light pile face with a jersey backing, 100% recycled polyester throughout. Peak Performance builds this pile softer and lighter than their Original pile styles, so treat the Men Pile Zip Jacket as a moderate-warmth layer rather than a deep-cold piece. Elastic binding along the collar, centre front zipper, hem and cuffs holds warm air in, and the elastic cuffs with thumbholes stop the sleeves riding up. Air passes through the pile freely, so put a shell over it once the wind picks up.

Which size should you choose in the Men Pile Zip Jacket?

The Men Pile Zip Jacket has a regular fit and comes in S, M, L and XL. It is cut to go over a base layer and under a shell or insulated jacket. Check the size chart on this page against a jacket you already own. If you will wear it mainly as a midlayer under a close-fitting shell, stay with your normal size rather than sizing up, because pile adds bulk of its own.

How is the Peak Performance Men Pile Zip Jacket built?

The fabric is a light pile with a jersey back, so the loops sit on the outside and the smooth jersey face runs against your base layer. Seams are narrow flatlock covering seams, which keeps the bulk down where the jacket sits under a shell or a harness strap. The front closes with a full-length 2-way YKK Vislon® zipper, so you can open the hem from the bottom while sitting or driving. Elastic binding runs along the collar, centre front zipper, hem and cuffs, and the pockets are lined in recycled polyamide. There is no membrane and no insulation layer behind the pile: all of the warmth in the Peak Performance Men Pile Zip Jacket comes from the fabric itself.

Does the Men Pile Zip Jacket work as a midlayer at the resort?

Yes, with one condition: it needs a shell over it. Peak Performance states the Men Pile Zip Jacket as a midlayer, worn over a base layer and under a shell or an insulated jacket, and the thumbholes help keep the sleeves in place when you pull the shell on. Where it stops is anything that asks the layer to face the weather itself. Without a membrane, a water column figure or a stated water-repellent finish, it is not a jacket for rain or wet snow, and pile with no wind-resistant layer behind it lets wind through on an exposed chairlift. The 660 g weight and the bulk of pile also make it the wrong choice for ski touring or packing light. On a resort day the comfort details show their origin in the casual side of the range: zippered hand pockets, a zippered chest pocket and a woven outside pocket for your phone and pass. Note that the hand pockets sit in the line of a climbing harness or a hip belt, so access is limited with either on.

What is the Men Pile Zip Jacket made of and how do you wash it?

The shell fabric of the Peak Performance Men Pile Zip Jacket is 100% recycled polyester and the pockets are 100% recycled polyamide. Polyester pile dries quickly and holds its loft through repeated washes, which matters on a layer worn several times a week. Machine wash at 40°C on a delicate cycle with similar colours and close the zippers first, so the Vislon® slider cannot catch the pile. Tumble dry on low or line dry in the shade. Do not iron, bleach or dry clean.

What are the sustainability credentials?

Both stated fabric parts of the Men Pile Zip Jacket are recycled: the shell is 100% recycled polyester and the pockets 100% recycled polyamide, which is why Peak Performance describes the main fabric as partly recycled fibres.
