What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

5. Refund
You will receive confirmation by e-mail when your return has been received and processed.
This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.
Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

- 3-layer HIPE®, seam sealed, 10,000 mm water column
- 2-way stretch shell with articulated sleeves
- Snap-in pant system and ski-helmet hood
- No insulation: needs a midlayer in the cold
- 10,000 mm is mid-range for all-day heavy rain
- Snow skirt and hood are fixed, not removable
The Peak Performance Maroon HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket is a men's three-layer, fully seam-sealed hardshell ski jacket built for full days of lift laps at the resort. It combines a 10,000 mm water column with 10,000 g/m²/24h breathability and a HIPE® membrane that stretches in two directions, so the shell follows your movement instead of fighting it. There is no insulation in this jacket: the warmth comes from what you wear underneath.
Who is this shell jacket for?
This is a jacket for the resort skier who wants weather protection and a full ski feature set — helmet-compatible hood, underarm vents, fixed snow skirt with snap-in ski pant system — and who is happy to layer a midlayer underneath for warmth. It also works as an everyday winter jacket in wet, windy weather. It is less suited to high-output ski touring, where the resort features and the 10,000 g/m²/24h breathability are more than you need, and to technical climbing with a harness, because the snow skirt is fixed and no harness-compatible pocket placement is given.
How waterproof and breathable is the Maroon HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket?
The three-layer HIPE® laminate is rated at 10,000 mm water column and 10,000 g/m²/24h moisture vapour transfer, and every seam is sealed. That is solid, mid-range protection: enough for snowfall, sleet and a wet chairlift ride, less convincing on a full day of heavy, persistent rain. Zippered vents under the sleeves let you dump heat on warm spring days or during a hike back to the lift.
Which size should you choose?
The Peak Performance Maroon HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket has a regular fit that ends at the hip, with a dropped hem at the back and articulated sleeves. There is room for a base layer and a midlayer without the shell pulling across the shoulders. Available in S, M, L, XL and 2XL — compare your measurements with the size chart on this page before ordering.
What does the three-layer HIPE® construction actually do?
HIPE® is Peak Performance's own membrane: 100% thermoplastic polyurethane, bonded between a recycled polyester face fabric and a recycled polyester backer to form a single three-layer laminate. Because the backer is laminated rather than hanging loose, there is no separate lining to soak up moisture, and the whole package stretches in two directions. All seams are taped, and the full-length front uses a YKK AquaGuard® coil zipper. The fixed hood fits over a ski helmet, adjusts for both height and width, and has a laminated brim that holds its shape in wind-driven snow.
How does the Maroon HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket handle a day on the piste?
This jacket is set up for lift-served skiing. A fixed snow skirt with a snap-in ski pant system closes the gap at the waist, the dropped hem at the back covers you on the chairlift, and the sleeve hems adjust with Velcro straps over gloves. There is a ski-pass pocket, a chest pocket, two zippered hand pockets, an inner pocket and a goggle wiper. Zippered underarm vents handle the heat on spring days. It also copes with lift-served off-piste runs in moderate conditions. Where it stops: long hours of skinning uphill, and deep cold if you have not layered underneath, since the Peak Performance Maroon HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket carries no insulation of its own. The snow skirt and hood are both fixed, so you cannot strip weight or bulk out of the jacket.
What is the Maroon HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket made of and how do you wash it?
Both the face fabric and the backer are 100% recycled polyester, with a 100% thermoplastic polyurethane HIPE® membrane in between. Polyester faces are hard-wearing against lift bars and backpack straps and dry quickly. Wash the jacket at 40 °C with the zippers closed, together with similar colours, without fabric softener and without bleach. Softener clogs the fabric and reduces water repellency. After washing, tumble dry on low or press with a cool iron: the heat reactivates the water-repellent treatment on the face fabric. Line dry in the shade if you prefer. Do not dry clean and do not have it professionally wet cleaned.
How sustainable is this shell jacket?
Peak Performance builds the Maroon HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket without intentionally added PFAS, and both layers of the face construction — the outer fabric and the backer — are 100% recycled polyester. Keeping the water repellency alive with regular washing and heat treatment is the single most effective way to extend the jacket's working life.
