What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 80 g/m² insulation in body, sleeves and hood
  • Fully seam sealed, 10,000 mm water column
  • Powder skirt snaps into compatible ski pants
  • About 1,160 g: heavy for uphill days
  • Insulation is sewn in, warmth can't be adjusted
  • 10,000 mm: mid-range for hours of wet snow

The Peak Performance Maroon 2L Insulated Shell Jacket is a men's insulated ski jacket for lift-served resort skiing, built around a HIPE® membrane rated at 10,000 mm water column and 10,000 g/m²/24h breathability. It is fully seam sealed and carries 80 g/m² of synthetic insulation in the body, the sleeves and the hood, so it works as one warm outer jacket rather than as a shell you build warmth under. The ski detailing is complete: a fixed powder skirt with snap-in ski pant system, a detachable helmet-compatible hood, a ski pass pocket and a goggle wiper cloth.

Who is this jacket for?

This is for the resort skier who wants a single warm jacket for cold chairlift days and moderate off-piste, and who does not want to manage a separate shell and midlayer. The Peak Performance Maroon 2L Insulated Shell Jacket is not the jacket for high-output ski touring or uphill days: at roughly 1,160 g with fixed insulation, it runs hot and heavy when you are climbing. It is also not a technical alpine or climbing jacket.

How warm and how weatherproof is it?

Warmth comes from 80 g/m² synthetic sheet insulation, applied evenly across body, sleeves and hood, behind a Helium quilted lining. That is a warm, not an extreme, level: enough for standing at a lift in cold weather, less than a heavy down parka for static extreme cold. Weather protection is 10,000 mm water column with fully sealed seams and a PFC-free water repellent finish — solid for snow, mid-range for hours of wet snow or rain. Zippered vents under the sleeves let heat out.

Which size should you choose?

The cut is regular: room for a base layer and a thin midlayer, not for a thick fleece or a second insulated layer. Sleeves are articulated and the hem has a drawcord. Available in S to 2XL, with coverage varying by colour. Check the Peak Performance size chart on this page against your chest and sleeve measurements before ordering.

What is HIPE® and how is this jacket built?

Two elements do the work in the Peak Performance Maroon 2L Insulated Shell Jacket: the membrane and the sewn-in insulation. HIPE® is Peak Performance's own membrane — 100% polyurethane with 2-way stretch — bonded behind a face fabric of 100% recycled polyester and rated at 10,000 mm water column and 10,000 g/m²/24h moisture transfer. Every seam is sealed, so water cannot track in where panels meet. Behind that sits synthetic sheet insulation at 80 g/m² in body, sleeves and hood, held by a Helium quilted lining of 100% recycled polyester. A PFC-free durable water repellent finish keeps the face fabric from wetting out in falling snow. The front runs on a YKK AquaGuard® coil zipper with a fleece-lined chinguard behind it.

How does it perform on a resort ski day?

On piste, the Maroon 2L Insulated Shell Jacket is set up for the chairlift rhythm: warm while you are sitting still, sealed against spindrift, and quick to dump heat through the zippered vents under the sleeves. The fixed powder skirt snaps into compatible ski pants, the hood is adjustable in height and width over a ski helmet and detaches completely, and the laminated brim keeps snow off your goggles. Pockets cover the day: two zippered hand pockets, a zippered chest pocket, a ski pass pocket on the sleeve, a zippered inner pocket and an inner mesh stash pocket, plus a goggle wiper cloth. Elastic wrist gaiters and velcro-adjustable sleeve hems close the gap to your gloves. Where it stops: skinning uphill, where 1,160 g of jacket with insulation you cannot remove becomes a liability, and long hours of rain, where a 20,000 mm shell does more.

What is it made of and how do you wash it?

The shell of the Peak Performance Maroon 2L Insulated Shell Jacket pairs a 100% polyurethane membrane with a 100% recycled polyester face; the lining is 100% recycled polyester and the body and sleeve filling is 100% polyester. Cuffs use 77% polyamide with 23% elastane for stretch, and the inserts 96% polyamide with 4% elastane. Wash at 40°C on a delicate cycle, inside out, with all zippers closed and the goggle wipe cloth removed. Use a technical detergent rather than a standard one, skip fabric softener, and tumble dry on low afterwards — the heat reactivates the water repellent finish. Do not dry clean.

What makes this a more sustainable choice?

The water repellent treatment on the Peak Performance Maroon 2L Insulated Shell Jacket is PFC-free. The face fabric of the shell and the full lining are 100% recycled polyester, and the pocket bags are partly recycled polyester at 57% polyester and 43% recycled polyester.
