What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 48% merino wool knit straight against the skin
  • YKK half zip vents heat on the climb
  • Flatlock seams stay smooth under a pack strap
  • Wool blend dries slower than pure synthetic
  • Wool detergent, line dry, no tumble dry
  • Next-to-skin cut: nothing fits underneath

The Peak Performance Magic Half Zip Wool-blend Baselayer Women is a long-sleeve base layer knitted from roughly equal parts polyester and merino wool, made to sit directly against the skin under a midlayer and an outer layer. A half zip with a YKK reversed coil zipper and a stand-up collar lets you vent heat on a climb and close up again on the chairlift. Rib-knit panels and elastane in the main panel hold the knit close to the body without limiting movement.

Who is this base layer for?

The Magic Half Zip base layer suits a woman who wants one warm, close-fitting wool-blend layer that covers resort days, ski touring and winter walks instead of a separate top for each. It is not the right choice if you sweat heavily in mild conditions or want the fastest-drying option available: a thin pure-synthetic base layer handles that better. It is also not a layer you wear on the outside, and not a layer you wear over anything else.

How warm is the Magic Half Zip base layer?

Warmth comes from the knit itself rather than from insulation: a polyester and merino wool blend with rib-knit panels, with no membrane and no padding. The half zip is the temperature control — open it fully on a skin track, close it to the stand-up collar when you stop. Peak Performance uses flatlock seams throughout, so the shoulders stay smooth under a pack strap or a shell.

Which size should you choose?

The cut is next to skin: slim, stretch-dependent and tight-fitting by design. Sizes run XS to XL. Check the size chart before you order, and keep in mind that this layer is meant to sit directly on the skin, so there is no room for anything underneath it.

How is the Peak Performance Magic Half Zip base layer constructed?

The Peak Performance Magic Half Zip Wool-blend Baselayer Women is built from two knitted fabrics. The main panel is 48% polyester, 48% merino wool and 4% elastane, which is where the stretch comes from; a second knit of 50% polyester and 50% merino wool completes the garment. There is no membrane and no lining — this is a single-layer knit top. The seams are flatlock, stitched flat so the edges do not stand proud against the skin, and the half zip uses a YKK reversed coil zipper that closes into a stand-up collar. Rib-knit panels add structure and thickness where the knit needs it.

Is the Magic Half Zip suitable for ski touring?

Yes, and the half zip is the reason. On a skin track you open the zip to the sternum and vent while you climb, then close it at the top before you drop in. The same works on a resort day: closed on the lift, open on the first pitch. For winter hiking and cold-weather everyday wear it does the same job under a jacket. Where the Magic Half Zip base layer stops is clear — it has no water column, no wind protection and no taped seams, so it belongs under a shell rather than on top of your layering. The wool content also means it holds more moisture than a pure synthetic knit and takes longer to dry, which matters on back-to-back touring days without a drying room.

What are the materials and how do you wash it?

Merino wool and polyester are blended through the whole garment: 48% polyester, 48% merino wool and 4% elastane in the main panel, 50% polyester and 50% merino wool in the second knit. Wool needs care, and the care routine here is specific. Wash at 30 °C on a delicate cycle, turned inside out, with a wool detergent and no fabric softener. Close the zip before washing and wash with similar colours. Do not tumble dry, do not iron, do not bleach and do not dry clean — line dry in the shade and reshape the garment while it is still damp so the rib panels and the body length stay true. Professional wet cleaning under a normal process is possible.

Is the Magic Half Zip made without PFAS?

The Peak Performance Magic Half Zip Wool-blend Baselayer Women is made without intentionally added PFAS. As a knit base layer it carries no water-repellent finish to begin with, so the fabric that touches your skin is simply the polyester and merino wool blend. The listing is offered in Black.
