What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 48% merino wool, 48% polyester, 4% elastane
  • Flatlock seams: no ridges under a pack strap
  • Rib knit panels and stretch for free movement
  • Next to Skin cut: no room for a layer beneath
  • Wool detergent, 30°C delicate, line dry only
  • 50% polyester, so not a full merino base layer

The Peak Performance Magic Crew Wool-blend Baselayer Women is a long-sleeve, crew-neck base layer in a merino wool and polyester blend, cut to sit directly against the skin underneath a midlayer and a shell. It is built as a multi-activity first layer for resort skiing, ski touring, freeride and winter hiking, rather than tuned to a single discipline. Rib knit panels and flatlock seams are what distinguish it: stretch and shape in the knit, and no seam ridges pressing into your skin under a pack strap or a shell.

Who is this base layer for?

The Magic Crew is for a skier who wants a close-fitting, stretchy wool-blend top that works across several winter activities instead of one. It is not an outer layer: no membrane, no water column and no wind protection, so it always needs a shell over it in weather. Skip it if you prefer a loose or relaxed cut, if you want to wear something underneath your first layer, or if you are specifically after a 100% merino top — half of each fabric here is polyester.

What does the wool-blend fabric do next to the skin?

The main fabric of the Peak Performance Magic Crew base layer is 48% merino wool, 48% polyester and 4% elastane, with a second fabric of 50% merino wool and 50% polyester. The merino brings the soft, natural handle of wool, the polyester adds durability and the elastane gives the knit its recovery. Rib knit panels and flatlock seams complete the picture.

Which size should you choose?

This is a Next to Skin cut, so the Magic Crew is tight-fitting with no ease, sitting flat against the body. It comes in XS, S, M, L and XL; check the size chart on this page against your own measurements before you order. Layer a midlayer and a shell over it, not under it.

How is the Peak Performance Magic Crew base layer built?

The Peak Performance Magic Crew Wool-blend Baselayer Women is a single-layer knitted top, not a shell and not an insulated piece. Its construction rests on three things. The knit itself blends merino wool with polyester and 4% elastane, so the fabric stretches with the body and returns to shape. Rib knit panels are worked into the garment for structure and give through the body. And every seam is flatlocked — joined flat instead of raised — so nothing stands proud against the skin where a harness, a pack strap or a shoulder seam sits. The collar is a plain crew neck, which stays low enough not to interfere with a midlayer zip or a shell collar.

Is the Magic Crew suitable for ski touring and resort skiing?

Yes, as a first layer under a midlayer and a shell. This Peak Performance base layer is positioned as a multifunctional top rather than a discipline-specific one, so the same garment covers a lift day, a touring day, freeride and a winter hike. On the skin-track the stretch knit and flatlock seams matter most; on resort days the crew neck sits unobtrusively under layers. Where it stops is weather: there is no membrane, no water column and no wind protection, so it does nothing on its own in wind or snow. It is also not a standalone warm layer — treat it as the foundation of a layering system and add warmth above it.

What is it made of and how do you wash it?

The main fabric is 48% merino wool, 48% polyester and 4% elastane; a second fabric is 50% merino wool and 50% polyester. That split is a trade-off you should know about: the polyester adds durability and dries the knit faster, while a 100% merino top would resist odour better over consecutive days. Care is wool care, and it is strict. Machine wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle with a wool detergent, inside out, with similar colours. No bleach, no fabric softener, no tumble drying, no ironing and no dry cleaning. Line dry in the shade and reshape the garment while it is still wet so the knit keeps its length and the rib panels keep their shape. If your washing routine runs on standard detergent and a tumble dryer, factor that in before you order.

What does Peak Performance say about sustainability here?

The Magic Crew is made without intentionally added PFAS. That is the concrete claim on this garment, and it fits a base layer that carries no durable water repellent finish in the first place.
