What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 700 fill power down with PrimaLoft Black RISE
  • 200 g/m2 side panels, 133 g/m2 in the sleeves
  • Pertex Diamond Fuse reinforced 20D ripstop shell
  • Water repellent only: no membrane, no taped seams
  • No ventilation openings: too warm for climbing
  • Relaxed cut, too roomy under a slim shell

The Peak Performance Helium Diamond Fuse Down Hood is a men's hooded down jacket built as a belay layer or a standalone outer layer for cold, dry winter conditions. It pairs 700 fill power duck down (90% down, 10% feather) with PrimaLoft® Black RISE synthetic insulation in a body-mapped layout, and wraps it in a 42 gsm 20D recycled ripstop shell with reinforcement panels woven from Pertex® Diamond Fuse yarn.

Who is the Helium Diamond Fuse Down Hood for?

This Peak Performance down jacket fits you if you want one warm, compressible jacket for cold everyday use and for standing still on the mountain — at a belay, at a viewpoint, at a lift stop — and you already own a waterproof shell for wet days. The face fabric is water repellent, not waterproof, so sustained rain and wet snow are outside its range. It is also not a resort shell: no powder skirt, no ski pass pocket and no wrist gaiters.

How warm is the Peak Performance Helium Diamond Fuse Down Hood?

Warmth is mapped by zone. The side panels carry 200 g/m2 of insulation and the sleeve panels 133 g/m2, with 700 fill power down doing the lofting and PrimaLoft® Black RISE covering the zones that get compressed. A 3D baffle construction holds the down in place, and the windproof 20D ripstop face fabric keeps cold air out. With no ventilation openings in the design, this is a jacket for low-output cold rather than for fast uphill work.

Which size should you choose?

The cut is relaxed and contemporary, with room for a midlayer underneath and a drawcord at the hem to pull the silhouette back in. Sizes run S, M, L and XL. Compare your chest measurement with the size chart on this page before ordering; if you need a trim layer to wear under a slim shell, this roomy cut is not it.

How is the Helium Diamond Fuse Down Hood constructed?

The Peak Performance Helium Diamond Fuse Down Hood is built around a lightweight 42 gsm 20D ripstop face fabric in 100% recycled polyamide, with reinforcement panels in a semi-transparent 38 gsm 20D ripstop woven with Pertex® Diamond Fuse yarn. Inside, a 3D baffle construction gives the 700 fill power down room to loft and keeps it from shifting, while PrimaLoft® Black RISE synthetic insulation takes the body-mapped zones. The quilt pattern follows a powder 8s motif. A YKK Vislon® zipper closes the front, and the hood is high and fitted with one-way width adjustment.

Is this down jacket suitable for skiing and mountain days?

On the mountain, the Helium Diamond Fuse Down Hood works as a belay layer and as the warm layer you pull on over a midlayer, or under a shell, when you stop moving. At the resort it does the same job between runs and in the car park. Where it stops is clear: the 20D ripstop is light, so rough rock and hauling abrasion are harder on it than on a heavier face fabric, even with the Pertex® Diamond Fuse reinforcement. There are no ventilation openings, so a long climb under load will leave you damp inside, and damp down loses loft. For travel it earns its place by compressing down small.

What is the Peak Performance Helium Diamond Fuse Down Hood made of, and how do you wash it?

Shell and lining are both 100% recycled polyamide. The down filling is 90% duck down and 10% duck feather at 700 fill power; the second filling is 100% recycled polyester. Wash the jacket at 40 °C on a delicate cycle with similar colours, with the zippers closed and no softener. Skip bleach, the iron, dry cleaning and professional wet cleaning. Drying is the step that decides how the jacket performs afterwards: tumble dry inside out on low with tennis balls for at least five hours, taking the jacket out every half hour to shake the down loose by hand so it does not clot in the baffles.

What makes this a more responsible down jacket?

The down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard and carries sterilization permit no. PA 9900(CN). The jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS, and both the shell and the lining use 100% recycled polyamide, with the synthetic insulation in 100% recycled polyester. The care routine above is part of that picture: down that is dried properly keeps its loft for years, which is the cheapest form of sustainability a jacket has.

Down (700 fill)
Down (700 fill)
Down with a 700 fill power delivers a high warmth-to-weight ratio. Fill power measures how much air the down traps, and therefore how much warmth it holds for its weight. At 700 the insulation stays light and highly compressible, so the garment packs down small and still lofts back up. This grade suits ultralight jackets worn on cold, dry days and works well as an insulating layer under a shell.
