Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 700 fill power RDS down, 90/10 down to feather
- Packs into the included compression bag
- Recycled polyamide shell and PFC-free DWR
- DWR finish only: not a shell for lasting rain
- No ventilation zips, overheats on ascents
- 841 g: warm rather than ultralight
The Peak Performance Frost Down Jacket Men is a hooded down jacket filled with 700 fill power duck down in a 90/10 down-to-feather ratio, built for cold and dry winter days. It is designed to be worn three ways: as an outer layer, as a belay layer when you stop moving, and as insulation underneath a shell jacket. The whole jacket compresses into the supplied storage bag, which is what makes it a travel jacket as much as a mountain one.
Who is this down jacket for?
This is the jacket for someone who wants one warm, packable down piece for cold winter days, mountain-town use and travel, and who already owns a waterproof shell for wet weather. It is not the right choice as your storm layer on the piste in bad weather, and it is not built for high-output ski touring ascents, where a full down jacket overheats and cannot move moisture fast enough.
How warm is the Peak Performance Frost Down Jacket Men?
Warmth comes from 700 fill power duck down, 90% down and 10% feather, with a hood that adjusts in both height and width to seal in heat. The recycled polyamide face fabric carries a PFC-free durable water repellent finish, so light snow and short showers bead off, but down loses loft and warmth once it is genuinely wet, so this is a jacket for dry cold rather than for hours of rain. Total weight is 841 grams, which puts it in the substantial-warmth category rather than the ultralight one.
Which size should you choose?
The Frost Down Jacket Men has a regular fit and comes in S, M, L and XL. There is enough room to wear it over a midlayer, and it still fits under a roomy shell jacket when you use it purely as insulation. Check the size chart on this page against your chest and sleeve measurements before you order.
How is the Peak Performance Frost Down Jacket Men built?
The Peak Performance Frost Down Jacket Men pairs a 100% recycled polyamide shell with a 100% recycled polyamide lining and a filling of 90% duck down and 10% feather at 700 fill power. The shell is finished with a PFC-free durable water repellent treatment rather than a membrane, so the jacket breathes as a down garment and sheds light moisture from the surface. The front closes with a full-length reversed YKK coil zipper behind a fleece-lined chin guard, and the fixed hood is adjustable in two directions so it stays in place when the wind turns. Sleeve hems close with hook-and-loop straps.
Is this down jacket suitable for skiing?
On cold, clear ski days the Frost Down Jacket Men works well worn under a shell jacket, and the zippered ski pass pocket shows it was drawn up with lift days in mind. It is at its best when you are standing still: at the lift, at the trailhead, in the car park after the last run. What it does not do is replace a hardshell. There is no powder skirt and no ventilation zips, so heat stays in during a climb and snow finds its way in during a storm. For touring ascents, keep this jacket in the pack and put it on at the top.
What are the materials and how do you wash it?
Shell and lining are both recycled polyamide, the collar is polyester, and the hand pockets use a 96% polyamide and 4% elastane fabric. Washing is straightforward but drying is not: machine wash at 40 °C on an extra gentle programme, inside out, with all zippers closed, using a technical detergent that keeps the water repellent finish working, and no fabric softener. Then tumble dry on low, inside out, with tennis balls, for at least five hours, taking the jacket out every half hour to shake the down back into shape. Skipping that step is how down clumps and loses warmth.
What makes this a more responsible down jacket?
The down in the Peak Performance Frost Down Jacket Men is certified to the Responsible Down Standard, the water repellent treatment is PFC-free, and both the shell and the lining are made from 100% recycled polyamide. The packable construction and the included compression bag are part of the same thinking: one jacket that travels with you instead of two that stay at home.
