What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • Sleeves zip off: full jacket or insulated vest

  • 40 g/m2 recycled fill in body, sleeves and hood
  • 40 g/m2 fill: too light for standing in deep cold

  • No powder skirt and no RECCO reflector

The Peak Performance Edge Insulated Jacket Men is an insulated ski jacket for resort and piste skiing, built on a HIPE® 2-way stretch membrane rated 10,000 mm water column and 10,000 g/m2/24h breathability. Its defining feature is the zip-off sleeves: the same jacket becomes an insulated vest when the spring sun arrives. Insulation is 40 g/m2 in the body, sleeves and hood.

Who is the Edge Insulated Jacket Men for?

This is for the resort skier who wants one relaxed, fully seam-sealed ski jacket for lift days and for wearing in town, and who does not need deep-powder or touring hardware. It is not built for high-output ski touring, for standing still in deep cold, or for technical alpine use: the cut is relaxed, the fill is light and no harness-compatible features are included.

How warm and waterproof is the Edge Insulated Jacket?

The Peak Performance Edge Insulated Jacket Men carries 40 g/m2 of synthetic sheet insulation, filled with 100% recycled polyester, in body, sleeves and hood. That even, light fill suits active skiing around freezing rather than long static spells in deep cold. All seams are sealed and the face fabric has a PFC-free DWR finish, but at 10,000 mm the water column sits mid-range, below the 20,000 mm class usually chosen for all-day rain or very wet snow. With no ventilation zips, you regulate heat with the front zipper and by removing the sleeves.

Which size should you choose?

The fit of the Edge Insulated Jacket Men is relaxed: room for a midlayer over your base layer, and no pull across the shoulders when you reach. Take your usual Peak Performance size as the starting point and check it against the size chart on this page. Only S, M, L and XL are offered, so there are no intermediate steps between sizes.

How is the Edge Insulated Jacket Men constructed?

HIPE® is Peak Performance's own membrane. In the Edge Insulated Jacket Men it is a 100% polyurethane film with 2-way stretch, bonded behind a face fabric of 100% recycled polyester and backed by a lining of 100% recycled polyester. The rating is 10,000 mm water column and 10,000 g/m2/24h moisture transport. Every seam is sealed, so water cannot enter through the stitching, and the shell is finished with a PFC-free Durable Water Repellent treatment that keeps the outer fabric from soaking up snowmelt. Between shell and lining sits synthetic sheet insulation at 40 g/m2, distributed evenly over body, sleeves and hood. The zip-off construction adds a full zipper seam around each shoulder, which is what makes the conversion possible and also adds an interface in an otherwise sealed shell.

Is the Edge Insulated Jacket Men suitable for ski touring?

No. The Peak Performance Edge Insulated Jacket Men is a resort and piste jacket. On lift-served days it does the work you expect: a two-way adjustable hood that clears a helmet and can be tightened with one hand, a laminated brim that keeps drizzle off your goggles, a fleece-lined chinguard, elastic wrist gaiters with thumbholes under your gloves, and a zippered ski pass pocket. For skinning and other high-output use the combination of 40 g/m2 insulation, no ventilation zips and 10,000 g/m2/24h breathability will leave you damp. There is no powder skirt listed either, so deep, snowy days are not where this jacket is strongest. In spring the calculation changes: unzip the sleeves and you have an insulated vest over a base layer, which is exactly what the construction is for.

What is the Edge Insulated Jacket Men made of and how do you wash it?

The shell panels combine a face of 100% recycled polyester with a 100% polyurethane membrane; the lining and the insulation filling are also 100% recycled polyester. The collar is 100% polyester, the cuffs are 77% polyamide and 23% elastane for stretch around the wrist, and the pockets use 100% polyester together with a 96% polyamide and 4% elastane blend. Machine wash at 40 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out, with all zippers closed and the goggle wiper cloth removed. Skip the fabric softener and use a technical detergent instead; a low tumble dry afterwards reactivates the water repellent finish.

What makes the Edge Insulated Jacket Men a more responsible choice?

Two concrete points. The water repellent treatment on the Peak Performance Edge Insulated Jacket Men is PFC-free, and the recycled content runs through the main parts of the garment: shell face fabric, lining and insulation filling are all 100% recycled polyester.
