What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 30.000 mm water column, fully seam sealed
  • 35.000 g/m²/24h breathable HIPE ACE membrane
  • Hood adjusts under a bike or climbing helmet
  • No insulation: warmth comes from your layers
  • No pit zips, venting via the 2-way front zip
  • Elastic cuffs cannot seal over ski gloves

The Peak Performance Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket Women is a three-layer waterproof shell jacket built for riding or walking to work in rain and wind. It pairs a 30.000 mm water column with 35.000 g/m²/24h breathability and a 2-way stretch face fabric, so the jacket moves with you in the saddle instead of pulling at the shoulders. Reflective taping sits hidden under the cuffs and under a fold-up flap at the back, and the jacket is packable for travel.

Who is this jacket for?

This is the shell for someone who commutes by bike or on foot through wet, windy weather and wants one fully waterproof outer layer that also handles hiking, everyday wear and travel. The Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket Women is not a ski jacket: there is no powder skirt and no snow-sealing cuff system, so resort days and freeride lines in deep snow are outside what it was built for. It also has no insulation, so on its own in the cold it will not keep you warm.

How waterproof and breathable is the Commuter HIPE® 3L?

The HIPE® ACE membrane is rated at 30.000 mm water column and 35.000 g/m²/24h moisture vapour transmission, and every seam is fully sealed. The full-length 2-way front zipper and all other exposed zippers are YKK AquaGuard®, and the hood brim is laminated so it holds its shape in driving rain. There is no underarm ventilation on this Peak Performance shell, so on hard efforts you vent by opening the two-way front zipper from the top or the bottom.

Which size should you choose?

The Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket Women has a regular fit with a cycling-adapted cut: a shoulder fit that works in a forward riding position and a slightly longer back for coverage when you lean in. It is a shell layer, so order it to sit over a base layer and a midlayer. The fixed hood adjusts in height and width with one hand and fits under a climbing or bike helmet. Check the size chart on this page before ordering. Available in S, M, L and XL.

How is the three-layer construction built?

The Peak Performance Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket Women is built on HIPE® ACE, Peak Performance's own 100% polyurethane membrane, bonded between a 30Dx35D plain weave face fabric and a soft tricot backer. That makes it a genuine three-layer laminate: no loose lining to cling to your arms, and a 30K/35K rating that translates to 30.000 mm water column and 35.000 g/m²/24h breathability. The face fabric has 2-way stretch, which is the reason the jacket follows a riding or climbing position rather than restricting it. Every seam is sealed and the closures are YKK AquaGuard®.

Is this jacket suitable for commuting by bike?

Commuting in rain is exactly what the cut is for. The shoulders are shaped for a forward position, the back hem drops slightly for coverage, and the reflective details are deliberately discreet: fold up the asymmetric elastic cuffs and reflective taping appears, and a hidden flap at the back folds up to reveal more. There is also reflective tape at the sleeve hem. The hood adjusts in two directions with one hand and clears a bike or climbing helmet. For hiking and travel the same specs apply, and the jacket packs down when you do not need it. Where it stops is winter sport: the elastic binding at the cuffs and hem cannot be widened or cinched over gauntlet gloves or a harness, and no RECCO® reflector is fitted.

What is it made of and how do you wash it?

The face fabric is 83% recycled polyester with 17% elastane for the stretch, the membrane is 100% polyurethane, and the backer on the back panel is 100% recycled polyester. A polyester-based shell like this stays light and holds its shape, but it depends on a clean surface to keep beading water. Machine wash cold at 30°C with a technical detergent, which maintains the water repellent treatment; skip fabric softener, which blocks it. Close all zippers first, wash with similar colours, remove the jacket promptly and either tumble dry on low or line dry in the shade. No bleach, no dry cleaning, no professional wet cleaning, and keep the iron cool and off any prints.

What does Peak Performance do about sustainability here?

The Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket Women is made without intentionally added PFAS. Recycled content runs through both textile layers: 83% recycled polyester in the face fabric and 100% recycled polyester in the shell backer.

3L
3L
3L refers to a three-layer construction in which the outer fabric, membrane, and a thin backer layer are combined into one unified layer. This design offers excellent protection against wind and water while maintaining high breathability. Because 3L is unlined, it feels light and flexible and functions as a versatile shell that allows your warmth and comfort to be determined by the layers you wear underneath. As a result, 3L provides a well-balanced combination of protection, freedom of movement, and comfort in winter conditions.
Peak Performance
Peak Performance began in 1986 in Åre, Sweden, where a group of ski enthusiasts decided to create ski clothing that was as stylish as it was functional. The brand is known for minimalist Scandinavian design and technical innovation. What once started as a local project is now a world leader in outdoor clothing, with products that combine sustainability and performance.
