What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

The Peak Performance Balaclava is a thin, unisex merino-blend balaclava that covers face and neck under a ski helmet, hood or hat. The knit is 50% merino wool, 46% polyester and 4% elastane, and the whole piece weighs 90 g. It is built as a base layer for moisture management and knitted warmth, not as a windproof face mask.

Who is the Peak Performance Balaclava for?

It suits skiers who want a slim layer that disappears under a helmet and keeps moving sweat away on cold days, whether on the piste or on a skin track. It is not the right choice if you want wind or weather protection from the face cover itself: this balaclava has no membrane, no coating and no water-repellent finish. Anyone who cannot tolerate wool against the skin should also look elsewhere, since merino makes up half the knit.

How warm is the Peak Performance Balaclava?

Warmth comes from the knit alone. There is no insulation layer and no lining, so a 90 g merino-blend knit against the skin is what you get: enough to take the bite out of cold air under a helmet, and thin enough that it does not fight for space with goggles or a hood. In hard wind or deep cold, treat it as the layer underneath, with a hood or a windproof outer piece over it.

Which size of the Peak Performance Balaclava should you choose?

The balaclava comes in S/M and L/XL only. With 4% elastane the knit stretches to follow the head, so most wearers land in one of the two sizes, but if you need a close match to a specific head circumference, the two-size grid can read as a compromise. Check the size chart on this page before ordering.

How is the Peak Performance Balaclava constructed?

The Peak Performance Balaclava is a single-layer knitted accessory: one merino wool blend fabric, no lining, no membrane, no laminate. Merino makes up 50% of the yarn and carries the warmth and the moisture handling; 46% polyester adds structure and helps the knit dry out; 4% elastane gives the stretch that lets one size cover a range of head shapes. The seams are flatlock, which means they are joined flat instead of ridged, so there is no raised seam pressing into your cheekbone or the back of your neck under a helmet shell. At 90 g, the complete balaclava adds very little bulk to a helmet fit.

Is the Peak Performance Balaclava suitable for ski touring?

Yes, that is one of the cases the merino-blend knit handles well. On a climb your face and neck produce a lot of moisture, and a thin knit that wicks and dries is more comfortable than a dense, sealed face mask that traps damp air. On the descent it stays in place under a helmet and under a hood. Where it stops is weather: it offers no stated wind protection and no water protection, so a storm day on an exposed ridge asks for a hood or a windproof shell collar pulled over the top. Off the mountain, the Peak Performance Balaclava also works as a plain cold-weather neck and face cover under a hat.

What is the Peak Performance Balaclava made of and how do you wash it?

The shell knit is 50% merino wool, 46% polyester and 4% elastane. That wool content is what makes the care routine stricter than a synthetic accessory: machine wash at 30 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out and with similar colours, and skip fabric softener and bleach, both of which flatten wool fibres and reduce their ability to move moisture. Do not tumble dry and do not iron, including over any print. Reshape the balaclava while it is still wet and dry it flat, in the shade, so the knit keeps its shape and the fibres are not baked by heat or direct sun. Professional wet cleaning on a normal process is possible; dry cleaning is not. Treated this way, a merino-blend knit holds its loft and its stretch over a long run of ski days.
