What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Jacket is a women's fleece jacket built as a warm layer for mountaineering and cold alpine days. It is made from warm3 fleece in 100% recycled polyester, with integrated hand gaiters in the cuffs, a high collar and soft brushed chin protection. Norrøna describes warm3 as its warmest fleece fabric, which is what separates this jacket from a light grid fleece.
Who is the trollveggen warm3 Jacket for?
This fleece jacket suits a woman who climbs, scrambles or moves in cold mountain conditions and already owns a waterproof shell for wet weather. It also works as a mid layer under a ski jacket and as a standalone warm jacket in town or while travelling. It is not the right choice if you need weather protection: there is no membrane and no water-resistant finish, so rain and wet snow belong to a shell. If you want a hood, look elsewhere — the Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Jacket protects up to the collar only.
How warm is this warm3 fleece?
Warmth here comes from the warm3 fleece fabric itself, in 100% recycled polyester, not from a separate insulation fill. The high collar, brushed chin protection, elasticated hem and cuffs with hand gaiters close off the usual cold spots, and the asymmetric, longer back hem keeps the lower back covered when you bend forward. That warmth level is built for belays, stops and static cold. For fast, high-output movement in mild conditions, the Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Jacket will run hot.
Which size should you choose?
The Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Jacket has a regular fit: close enough to layer under a shell, roomy enough to wear over a base layer or a thin merino top. It is offered in S, M and L. Check the size chart on this page against your own measurements before ordering, and take the next size up if you plan to wear it over a thicker mid layer.
How is the Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Jacket constructed?
The Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Jacket is a single-fabric fleece jacket: warm3 fleece in 100% recycled polyester, with no lining and no membrane. All of the warmth and all of the stretch come from that one fabric, which keeps the construction simple and the jacket flexible to move in. Two zippered hand-warming pockets and one zippered chest pocket hold what you need on the move, the chest pocket staying reachable under a harness or a pack hipbelt. Cuffs with integrated hand gaiters stop sleeves riding up, and an inside hang loop makes drying easy. Wind and water resistance are limited to what a dense fleece gives — there is no membrane and no water-repellent finish.
Is this fleece suitable for mountaineering and skiing?
Mountaineering and alpine climbing are what the trollveggen line is built around, and this jacket is the warm layer in that system: pull it on at a belay, on a summit or during any long stop in the cold, under a hardshell when the weather turns. For resort skiing and freeride it serves well as a warm mid layer under a ski jacket. For ski touring it is less convincing — the warmth that works when you are standing still becomes too much on a sustained climb, so most tourers will prefer a lighter fleece and keep this one for the transition. Outside the mountains, the Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Jacket works as a standalone warm jacket for everyday use and travel.
What is it made of and how do you wash it?
The main fabric is 100% recycled polyester. Recycled polyester fleece keeps its loft and shape through repeated washing, dries quickly and does not absorb much moisture, which is why it stays usable in cold, damp mountain air. Wash it at 40°C on a normal cycle with similar colours and close all zippers first. Skip the fabric softener — it coats the fibres and flattens the pile. Do not bleach, do not iron and do not dry clean. Tumble drying is allowed on a low setting.
What makes this a more sustainable fleece jacket?
The main fabric of the Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Jacket is recycled polyester (PET), certified to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) from Textile Exchange. The article is bluesign® APPROVED and certified to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, so the fabric has been checked for harmful substances. The jacket is made in China.
