What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 305 g/m2 pile fleece, 100% recycled polyester
- Zipped chest pocket plus two zipped hand pockets
- Dropped back hem and articulated sleeves
- No membrane or DWR: not for rain or wet snow
- 480 g in M, heavy for fast-and-light touring
- No hood; carried in S and M only
The Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket is a women's pile fleece jacket for resort and sidecountry skiing and snowboarding, built around a 305 g/m2 pebbled pile fleece in 100% recycled polyester. It works two ways: as a warm midlayer under a shell on the hill, and as a jacket on its own in dry, cold weather. The warmth comes from the fabric itself — there is no insulation fill and no membrane.
Who is this jacket for?
The tamok warm3 Jacket suits a skier or snowboarder who wants one warm pile fleece that covers the lift day under a shell and the walk into town afterwards. It is not the jacket for weight- and bulk-sensitive fast-and-light ski touring, and it is not weather protection: with no membrane, no water column and no DWR treatment, rain, wet snow and sleet call for a shell over the top. There is no hood, no powder skirt and no pit zips.
How warm is the Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket?
The warm3 pebbled pile main fabric weighs 305 g/m2, and the complete jacket weighs 480 grams in women's M. That puts it at the heavy, warm end of the fleece range rather than among light touring midlayers. A high collar, brushed chin protection, snap-adjustable cuffs and a contoured, piped hem keep the warm air in. Pile fleece is air-permeable, so in strong wind or driving snow you will want a shell on top.
Which size should you choose?
The Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket has a relaxed cut — roomy enough to pull on over a merino baselayer or a thin midlayer, and long at the back thanks to the asymmetric dropped hem. Because of that volume and the 305 g/m2 fabric, it needs a shell with room to spare; under a close-fitting shell it will feel tight. Check your chest measurement against the size chart on this page. This jacket is carried in S and M only.
How is the Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket constructed?
The Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket is a single-layer garment: a 305 g/m2 pebbled pile fleece in 100% recycled polyester, with a second fabric used for reinforcement and trim — a 22d recycled full-dull nylon ripstop at 49 g/m2. The pile face carries a printed pattern and an embroidered logo artwork at the front. Articulated sleeves follow a bent arm, the hem is contoured and piped, and the back is cut asymmetrically longer so the jacket stays put when you crouch into a turn. A full-length front zip, snap-adjustable cuffs and a high collar with brushed chin protection handle the closure details.
Is the tamok warm3 Jacket suitable for ski touring?
Only within limits. The tamok line is built for resort and sidecountry days, and that is where this pile fleece belongs: as a midlayer under a hardshell on cold lift days, as a freeride midlayer, and as a standalone jacket on dry, cold mornings. At 480 grams in women's M with a 305 g/m2 face fabric, it is heavier and bulkier than a dedicated touring midlayer, so for long climbs where grams and pack space matter it is the wrong tool. It also stops where the weather starts: no membrane and no stated wind resistance mean a shell goes over the top as soon as it rains, sleets or blows hard.
What is the Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket made of and how do you wash it?
Main fabric: 100% recycled polyester pile fleece, 305 g/m2, woven at Kingwhale in Taiwan and certified to bluesign and the Global Recycled Standard. Reinforcement and trim: 22d recycled nylon ripstop, 49 g/m2 — a light fabric that adds abrasion resistance where panels and zips meet. Polyester pile is quick-drying, which matters when you sweat on the way up a sidecountry bootpack. Wash gently at 40°C with similar colours and all zips closed, tumble dry on low, and skip bleach, the iron and dry cleaning. There are two zipped hand-warming pockets, a zipped chest pocket and an inside hang loop for drying it out after a day on the hill.
How sustainable is this jacket?
Both fabrics in the Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket are recycled: polyester for the pile, nylon for the ripstop trim. Certifications recorded for this style are Recycled Polyester (PET), Recycled Polyamide/Nylon (PA), OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 and the Global Recycled Standard from Textile Exchange, and the main fabric is bluesign certified. The jacket is made in China. Two colourways are available: Phantom/Caviar and Whisper White/Cashmere Blue.
