What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 28,000 mm waterproof 3-layer GORE-TEX ePE shell
  • 220D Vectran at ankles and hem resists edge cuts
  • Full-length left side zip for easy dressing
  • No insulation: warmth comes from your layers
  • 682 g in women's M, not a fast-and-light bib
  • Only offered in S and M, and no zipped fly

The Norrøna tamok GORE-TEX Performance Shell Bibs are women's uninsulated 3-layer hardshell bib pants built for powder skiing and snowboarding off-piste and in the sidecountry. A 28,000 mm waterproof GORE-TEX ePE-based laminate is combined with 220D Vectran reinforcement at the inside ankles and hem, so the fabric that ski edges hit is the toughest part of the garment. The high-rise bib front and integrated stretch snow gaiters keep snow out on deep days.

Who are these bibs for?

They suit a rider who spends full days in snow and bad weather and wants durability before low weight: backcountry and sidecountry powder, resort laps, and touring where abrasion resistance matters more than grams. At 682 g in women's M, the Norrøna tamok shell bibs are not the right choice for weight-critical fast-and-light touring, and they are not a spring hiking pant — a full-coverage bib with snow gaiters is more garment than non-snow use needs.

How waterproof and breathable are they?

The 3-layer construction has a 200D face of 100% recycled nylon at 152 g/m2, a GORE-TEX ePE-based PFC-free membrane rated at 28,000 mm water column, and seams taped with 13 mm GORE-TEX tape. Breathability is stated as RET under 9. X-open side ventilation with water-resistant zippers and mesh lining lets you dump heat on the climb.

Which size should you choose?

The Norrøna tamok bibs have a regular, slightly relaxed cut with articulated knees and a 4-way stretch back panel. The 38 mm stretch suspenders adjust for torso length and the lower legs close with snap buttons over ski boots. Check your measurements against the size chart on this page; the bibs are offered in S and M.

How is the Norrøna tamok GORE-TEX Performance Shell Bib constructed?

The Norrøna tamok GORE-TEX Performance Shell Bibs use a 3-layer laminate: a 200D face fabric of 100% recycled nylon at 152 g/m2, a GORE-TEX ePE-based PFC-free membrane, and a backer bonded into one piece. Every seam is sealed with 13 mm GORE-TEX tape, which is what turns a waterproof fabric into a waterproof garment. The stated water column is 28,000 mm and breathability is given as RET under 9. The inside ankles and the hem — the two places a ski or board edge reaches — carry a separate 220D Vectran panel at 350 g/m2. Total weight is 682 g in women's M.

Are these bibs suitable for backcountry powder and ski touring?

Backcountry and sidecountry powder is what this bib is built around. The high-rise front sits above the waist, integrated stretch snow gaiters seal against the boot, and snap buttons at the lower leg tighten the cuff. On the way up, the X-open side ventilation opens with water-resistant zippers over mesh; the left zipper continues all the way up, so you can step in and out without removing boots. The limit is weight and warmth. With 200D face fabric and 220D Vectran reinforcements, the Norrøna tamok bib is a durability-first design rather than a minimum-weight touring shell, and it carries no insulation at all, so warmth on a cold lift day comes entirely from your base layer and, in deep cold, an insulating leg layer. The design also has no zipped fly.

What are the Norrøna tamok shell bibs made of?

The main fabric is the 3-layer 200D GORE-TEX ePE-based PFC-free laminate with a 100% recycled nylon face at 152 g/m2. The lower legs are reinforced with 220D Vectran at 350 g/m2, a fibre chosen for abrasion resistance rather than stretch. A 4-way stretch panel across the back adds movement where a bib normally pulls when you bend forward, and the knees are articulated so the fabric follows the joint instead of bunching. Storage is split across two bellowed thigh pockets with water-resistant zippers, a zipped horizontal chest pocket, a second horizontal chest pocket with flap and snap, a front pocket with two internal compartments, an inside mesh phone pocket and a key pocket.

What makes this bib more sustainable?

Two concrete points: the face fabric of the Norrøna tamok shell bib is 100% recycled nylon, and the GORE-TEX ePE-based membrane technology is PFC-free. Norrøna builds its collections around one discipline each and around garments that can be repaired and kept in use, and the heavy Vectran reinforcement at the ankles is part of that logic — it protects the part of a bib that usually fails first.
