What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 25,000 mm water column, taped seams
- Zip-off powder skirt and hand gaiters
- Chest vents plus X-open underarm pit zips
- 922 g in women's M: heavy for touring
- No insulation, so a midlayer is required
- Carried in sizes S and M only
The Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket is a women's uninsulated three-layer hardshell ski jacket for freeride and resort skiing and snowboarding. It pairs a 25,000 mm waterproof dri3 laminate with taped seams, a zip-off powder skirt, integrated hand gaiters and both chest and underarm vents, so weather protection comes from the shell and warmth comes from the layers you choose underneath. At 922 g in women's M it is built as a storm shell, not as a lightweight touring jacket.
Who is the Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket for?
This jacket suits a woman who rides resort and sidecountry terrain in wet, stormy snow and wants a rugged shell with powder-specific details and large vents. It is not the jacket for ski touring and long climbs where every gram counts, and it is not a standalone warm layer: with no insulation, a midlayer is required in cold weather. If you want a close, slim silhouette, the relaxed cut will feel roomy.
How waterproof and breathable is the tamok dri3 Jacket?
The Norrøna dri3 membrane is a hydrophilic PU laminate rated at a 25,000 mm water column with 20,000 g/m²/24h MVTR, and all seams on waterproof fabric are taped. A PFC-free DWR keeps the face fabric shedding water. Breathability is published as MVTR only, so it cannot be compared directly with RET-rated membranes. For heat management on the move, the chest vents and X-open underarm zips move more air than the membrane alone.
Which size should you choose in the tamok dri3 Jacket?
The Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket has a relaxed fit, with room for a fleece or light insulated midlayer underneath. The back is cut asymmetrically longer for coverage when you bend forward, and the elbows are articulated. This style is carried in sizes S and M only. Check the size chart on this page and compare it with a jacket you already ski in.
How is the Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket constructed?
The Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket is a three-layer shell: a woven nylon face, the dri3 hydrophilic PU laminate, and a 20d recycled polyester single jersey backer that sits against your midlayer. The main fabric is a 100% recycled nylon plainweave in 70d x 160d at 190 g/m², while a heavier 160d x 250d twill at 245 g/m² reinforces the yoke and the back of the sleeves, the areas that take the load from a pack and from carrying skis. Both fabrics carry the same 25,000 mm / 20,000 g/m²/24h rating, and the fabric is built with 4-way stretch. Because the jersey backer is laminated into the construction, there is no separate lining.
Is the tamok dri3 Jacket suitable for freeride, resort and touring?
Freeride and lift-served riding are where this jacket belongs. The storm hood is sized for a freeride helmet and adjusts with one hand, the powder skirt zips off and seals with gripper elastic and snaps, and the integrated hand gaiters close the gap between sleeve and glove in deep snow. Four outer pockets and two inner pockets take a radio, a key card and goggles, and there is a wipe for goggles and sunglasses inside. For ski touring the Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket stops earlier: 922 g in women's M is heavy for an uninsulated shell on a long climb, even with the chest and pit zips open. No RECCO reflector is stated for this jacket, so if you rely on one in avalanche terrain, plan for a separate reflector.
What is the tamok dri3 Jacket made of and how do you wash it?
The main face fabric is 100% recycled polyamide with a 100% recycled polyester backer; the second fabric is listed as 82% recycled polyamide with 18% elastane for stretch where the body moves most. Wash gently at 40 °C with a liquid detergent and with similar colours, close all zippers first, and skip bleach, ironing and dry cleaning. A low tumble dry cycle helps reactivate the PFC-free DWR, which keeps the face fabric from soaking up water and losing breathability. The jacket is made in Vietnam.
What are the sustainability credentials of this jacket?
Both face fabrics are recycled nylon and both backers are recycled polyester, and the water repellency is PFC-free, so no PFAS chemistry is used in the finish. The fabric is bluesign approved, and the jacket carries Global Recycled Standard (GRS, Textile Exchange) and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification. Norrøna builds the tamok line for resort and sidecountry use, with reinforcement where wear happens so the shell can be worn hard over many seasons.
