What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 25,000 mm dri3 laminate, 3L with taped seams
- Nylon and Vectran fibres for cut resistance
- X-open side vents with mesh and drop function
- No insulation: warmth comes from your layers
- 1030 g in men's L, heavy for ski touring
- Only M, L and XL; Port not offered in XL
The Norrøna tamok dri3 Bibs are a men's three-layer waterproof shell bib for freeride skiing and snowboarding in deep snow and bad weather. The dri3 laminate holds a 25,000 mm water column and 20,000 g/m²/24h MVTR, and the face fabric carries nylon and Vectran fibres in warp and weft for cut resistance. There is no insulation in these bibs: warmth comes entirely from the layers you wear underneath.
Who are the tamok dri3 Bibs for?
These bibs suit the freeride skier or snowboarder who wants full snow protection, strong venting and a rugged face fabric, and who accepts 1030 grams in men's L in return for that durability. They are not the right choice if you count grams on fast-and-light ski tours, and not the right choice if you want stand-alone warmth for standing around in deep cold. The Norrøna tamok dri3 Bibs are offered in men's sizes only, in M, L and XL.
How waterproof and breathable are the Norrøna tamok dri3 Bibs?
The three-layer dri3 construction is a PU hydrophilic laminate rated at 25,000 mm water column, with taped seams and a PFC-free DWR on the face fabric. Moisture vapour transmission is published at 20,000 g/m²/24h. For hard climbs and warm days there is X-open side ventilation with water-resistant zippers and mesh, plus thigh venting with a one-sided drop function, so you can dump heat without taking the bibs off.
Which size should you choose in the tamok dri3 Bibs?
The Norrøna tamok dri3 Bibs have a regular fit with a bottom leg width of 59 cm, so they sit over ski boots rather than inside them. The 38 mm adjustable shoulder suspenders and the micro waist adjuster let you set the bib height, and the stretch back panel moves with you. Use the size chart on this page to compare your waist and inseam measurements before ordering.
How are the Norrøna tamok dri3 Bibs built?
The Norrøna tamok dri3 Bibs use a three-layer laminate: a 160d x 250d recycled nylon twill face fabric at 245 g/m², the dri3 PU hydrophilic membrane, and a 20d recycled polyester single jersey backer bonded to the inside. All seams are taped. Nylon and Vectran fibres run through both warp and weft of the face fabric for cut resistance, which is the main reason the bib weighs 1030 grams in men's L. The main fabric has 4-way stretch, and the back panel is made from a breathable stretch fabric so the bib part does not restrict your torso.
Are the tamok dri3 Bibs suitable for freeride and resort skiing?
Freeride skiing and snowboarding is what this bib is built for, with resort days and sidecountry riding in deep snow as the obvious extensions. The bib cut and the stretchy snow gaiter with friction elastic keep snow out on deep days and after a fall. Articulated knee and seat construction keep the leg shape when you are low and driving the ski, and reinforcement fabric inside the ankles takes edge and crampon contact. Where the Norrøna tamok dri3 Bibs stop is weight-critical touring: at 1030 grams in men's L they are heavy for long skinning days, and there is no insulation, so a lift queue in deep cold is a job for your base and mid layers, not for the bib itself. Storage is sorted for a riding day: bellowed thigh pockets and a horizontal chest pocket with water-resistant zippers, an inside mesh phone pocket and a tool pocket.
What are the tamok dri3 Bibs made of and how do you wash them?
The main fabric face is 100% recycled polyamide and the backer is 100% recycled polyester; the stretch panels are 82% recycled polyamide with 18% elastane. Wash the Norrøna tamok dri3 Bibs gently at 40 °C with a liquid detergent, with all zippers closed and with similar colours. Do not use bleach, do not iron and do not dry clean. A light tumble dry helps reactivate the PFC-free DWR on the face fabric, which keeps the outer layer from wetting out and saturating.
How sustainable are the Norrøna tamok dri3 Bibs?
Both layers of the main fabric are recycled: 100% recycled nylon on the face, 100% recycled polyester on the backer. The water repellent finish is PFC-free. The fabric and article carry bluesign APPROVED certification, Global Recycled Standard (GRS, Textile Exchange) and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100. The bibs are made in Vietnam and are available in Port, Olive Night and Caviar Black.
