Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 80 g/m2 body fill, 60 g/m2 hood, cuffs and skirt
- PFAS-free GORE-TEX ePE membrane, under 50 ppm
- Freeride helmet hood, zip-off skirt, hand gaiters
- 816 g in size M: heavy for a ski jacket
- Fixed insulation, only pit zips to regulate heat
- Lined 2-layer build breathes less on the uphill
The Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket is an insulated women's freeride ski jacket built on a 2-layer GORE-TEX ePE shell with 80 g/m2 synthetic insulation through the body. It is made for lift-accessed skiing and snowboarding on and off the piste in cold conditions, for the skier who wants one warm waterproof jacket instead of a shell plus a separate midlayer. The insulation is sewn in, so this is a committed cold-weather jacket rather than a modular system.
Who is this jacket for?
The lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket suits a woman who rides mainly from the lift, moves between groomers and off-piste terrain, and gets cold standing in the queue or on a windy ridge. It is the wrong choice for fast uphill travel on skins, for mild spring days where an uninsulated shell makes more sense, and for technical climbing, where a lighter and less bulky shell works better.
How warm and how waterproof is the thermo80?
Pinneco Mantle B synthetic insulation runs at 80 g/m2 across the body and 60 g/m2 in the hood, the cuffs and under the powder skirt, so the warmth sits where you lose heat without padding out the shoulders. The waterproof and windproof layer is a GORE-TEX ePE membrane in a 2-layer construction, with a C0 DWR finish on the 60d recycled nylon face fabric. X-open underarm vents with water-resistant zippers let you dump heat on a warm bootpack.
Which size should you choose?
Norrøna gives this jacket a regular fit: room for a base layer and a thin to mid-weight midlayer, without a loose freeride drape. The back is cut longer and asymmetric for cover when you sit on a chairlift or crouch in a turn, and the elbows are articulated. Check your chest and sleeve length against the size chart on this page before ordering. Sizes run S to L in Cashmere Blue/Allure and S to XL in Caviar Black.
How is the Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket built?
The construction is a 2-layer GORE-TEX ePE laminate: an expanded polyethylene membrane bonded to a 60d dull softhand plain weave face fabric of 89 g/m2, with a separate 20d recycled nylon lining of 35 g/m2 hanging inside. Between membrane and lining sits Pinneco Mantle B synthetic insulation, 80 g/m2 in the body and 60 g/m2 in the hood, the cuffs and the area under the snowskirt. Because the insulation is part of the garment, the only way to regulate temperature is the two-way front zipper and the underarm vents. Total weight is 816 g in size M.
Is the lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket good for freeriding?
Yes, that is the discipline the lofoten line is built for. The storm hood is sized to go over a freeride helmet and adjusts with one hand, the hem adjusts with one hand too, and the zip-off powder skirt plus integrated hand gaiters keep snow out after a fall in deep snow. A five plus two pocket layout takes a radio, a key card, goggles and a sunglass wipe. Where the jacket stops is uphill: at 816 g with a fully lined 2-layer build, it traps heat and moisture faster than an uninsulated 3-layer shell during sustained skinning, so ski touring is not its job.
What is it made of and how do you wash it?
Both the face fabric and the lining of the Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket are 100% recycled nylon; a secondary fabric of 82% recycled polyamide with 18% elastane adds stretch at the contact points. The 60d face weave is the heavier end of ski-shell fabric and is what you want against a chairlift bar, a ski edge or a tree branch. Wash it gently at 40 degrees Celsius with a liquid detergent and all zippers closed, skip bleach and dry cleaning, then tumble dry lightly to wake up the C0 DWR. Iron at 110 degrees Celsius maximum if needed.
How sustainable is this jacket?
The GORE-TEX ePE membrane is PFAS free at under 50 ppm, and the water-repellent finish is a C0 DWR. The recycled nylon content is covered by the Global Recycled Standard and the Recycled Claim Standard 100 from Textile Exchange, and the article is bluesign APPROVED and certified to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100. The jacket is made in Vietnam.
