Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

- 80 g/m2 insulation in body, 60 g/m2 in the hood
- GORE-TEX 2L ePE membrane, PFAS free under 50 ppm
- Zip-off powderskirt and helmet-fit storm hood
- 930 g in size L: heavy for a ski jacket
- Fixed insulation: too warm above freezing
- Sizes M to 2XL only, no S and no women's cut
The Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket is an insulated freeride ski and snowboard jacket for men, built for cold days on lift-served terrain and off-piste. It combines a 2-layer GORE-TEX ePE laminate with 80 g/m2 Pinneco Mantle B synthetic insulation in the body, so it replaces a shell-plus-midlayer system with one warm outer layer. It weighs 930 grams in size L.
Who is the lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket for?
This jacket suits a skier or snowboarder who rides resort terrain and off-piste in cold conditions and wants one warm, fully waterproof jacket with powder-specific details. It is not the jacket for uphill ski touring or other high-output days: the fixed insulation and the 2-layer construction will overheat on the climb. It is also too warm for mild spring days above freezing, and the listing covers men's sizes M to 2XL only, so riders who need size S or a women's cut should look elsewhere.
How warm and how waterproof is the Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket?
Insulation is 80 g/m2 Pinneco Mantle B through the body and 60 g/m2 in the hood, the cuffs and under the powderskirt, which keeps bulk down where the jacket overlaps itself. The outer face is a 60d recycled nylon weave at 89 g/m2 bonded to a GORE-TEX ePE membrane that is PFAS free, under 50 ppm, and finished with a C0 DWR. Venting runs through X-open underarm zippers, which matter here because an insulated 2-layer build breathes less than an uninsulated 3-layer shell.
Which size should you choose in the lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket?
The cut is a regular fit, sized to be worn over a base layer and a thin to medium midlayer rather than over a thick fleece or a down jacket, because the 80 g/m2 insulation is already built in. Check the size chart on this page before ordering. The storm hood is shaped to fit over a freeride helmet, and the asymmetric longer back cut stays in place when you crouch or sit on a lift.
How is the Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket built?
The construction is a 2-layer GORE-TEX ePE laminate: a 100% recycled nylon face fabric in a 60d dull soft-hand plain weave at 89 g/m2, bonded to an expanded polyethylene membrane that is PFAS free at under 50 ppm. Behind that sit the Pinneco Mantle B insulation and a separate 100% recycled nylon lining in a 20d plain weave at 35 g/m2, which lets the jacket slide over a midlayer instead of dragging on it. A C0 DWR on the face fabric keeps the outer surface from soaking through and wetting out. Total weight is 930 grams in size L.
Is the lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket suitable for freeride and sidecountry riding?
Yes, that is what this jacket was built for. The zip-off powderskirt with gripper elastic and a snap-seal closure, the integrated hand gaiters, the one-hand hem adjustment and the one-hand hood adjustment are all details for deep snow and lift-accessed sidecountry. Storage runs to a 5 + 2 pocket configuration, including two vertical chest pockets, a radio and key-card pocket and a goggle and sunglass wipe inside a pocket. Where it stops: the Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket is heavy for a ski jacket at 930 grams in size L, and its insulation cannot be removed, so the warm end of its range is limited. For static expedition cold, a high-fill-power down parka is warmer for the same weight.
What is the lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket made of and how do you wash it?
Both the face fabric and the lining are 100% recycled nylon, and a secondary fabric of 82% recycled polyamide with 18% elastane is used alongside them. Recycled nylon at 60d gives a fabric that resists abrasion from a board edge, a pack or a chairlift without adding weight in the lining. Wash the jacket gently at 40°C with a liquid detergent and with similar colours, close all zippers first, and skip bleach and dry cleaning. A light tumble dry helps reactivate the C0 DWR; if you iron, stay at 110°C maximum.
How sustainable is the Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex thermo80 Jacket?
The GORE-TEX ePE membrane is PFAS free at under 50 ppm and the water-repellent finish is a C0 DWR. Face fabric and lining are both 100% recycled nylon, and recycled polyamide and recycled polyester raw materials are declared for the style. The article is bluesign® APPROVED and certified to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and the Recycled Claim Standard 100 (RCS), both from Textile Exchange. The jacket is made in Vietnam.
