What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Norrøna falketind warm2 Jacket is a women's fleece midlayer for year-round mountain use, from summer trekking to winter ski touring. The body is a 192 g/m² melange fleece in 100% recycled polyester, combined with knitted grid-fleece stretch panels, and the jacket weighs 300 g in size M. It carries no membrane and no hood: this is the breathable warm layer you wear under a shell, not the weather protection itself.
Who is the falketind warm2 Jacket for?
This jacket suits an active outdoor user who wants one stretchy recycled-fleece midlayer that covers trekking, hiking and ski touring, and who already owns a shell for wind and rain. It is the wrong choice if you want a single jacket for standing still in deep cold on lift days or at a belay, if you need a hood, or if you expect the outer layer to keep out rain and wet snow. For that, the Norrøna falketind warm2 Jacket needs an insulated or waterproof layer over it.
How warm and how breathable is it?
Warmth comes from the fleece itself: a 192 g/m² melange face fabric with 178 g/m² one-sided grid fleece in the secondary panels, 300 g total in size M. That is midweight fleece warmth, and because the fabric is unlaminated it moves moisture and heat freely when you are working hard uphill. Wind resistance is limited, so on exposed ridges a shell over the top does the blocking. A HeiQ Fresh FFL anti-odour treatment and UPF 50+ sun protection are built into the fabric.
Which size should you choose?
The Norrøna falketind warm2 Jacket has a regular fit: close enough to layer under a ski or hardshell jacket, roomy enough over a base layer. Stretch side panels, gusseted underarms and articulated sleeves keep the sleeves from riding up when you reach, and the dropped asymmetric back hem stays put under a pack. Check the size chart on this page before ordering. The range runs S, M and L only.
How is the Norrøna falketind warm2 Jacket built?
The Norrøna falketind warm2 Jacket combines two knitted fabrics. The main body is a soft melange fleece at 192 g/m², made from 100% recycled polyester. The secondary fabric is a one-sided grid fleece at 178 g/m², 95% recycled polyester with 5% elastane, used where the jacket needs to move with you. Construction details follow the same active-use logic: a full-length front zip with chinguard, a high collar with a non-chafing top edge, gusseted underarm panels, articulated sleeves, elastic cuffs with a thumb grip, floating mid-mounted hand pockets and a dropped, asymmetric longer back hem. Embroidered logo artwork sits on the front.
Is the falketind warm2 Jacket suitable for ski touring?
Yes, as a midlayer. On a skin track the unlaminated fleece lets heat and moisture escape instead of trapping them, and the stretch panels and articulated sleeves follow the pole plant rather than fighting it. Carry a shell for the descent and for anything exposed: the Norrøna falketind warm2 Jacket has no membrane and no wind-blocking layer, so sustained wind cuts through and rain or wet snow will soak it. In resort use it works the same way, under a ski jacket. Where it stops is static cold. At 192 g/m² and 300 g in size M this is midweight fleece warmth, not an insulated jacket for long lift queues, belays or standing around camp in deep cold, and there is no hood to pull up.
What is the falketind warm2 Jacket made of and how do you wash it?
Main fabric: 100% recycled polyester (PES) at 192 g/m². Secondary fabric: 95% recycled polyester with 5% elastane at 178 g/m². Both are bluesign approved and certified to the Global Recycled Standard, and the fabric is OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified. Wash it gently at 40°C with similar colours and all zips closed. Skip fabric softener, which clogs the fibre surface, and skip bleach, the tumble dryer, the iron and dry cleaning. Fleece dries fast on a hanger. The jacket is made in China.
What makes the fabric choice more sustainable?
Every fabric in this women's fleece midlayer is recycled-content polyester: 100% in the main melange fleece, 95% in the grid-fleece panels with the remaining 5% elastane providing the stretch. The bluesign and GRS certifications cover the fabric production, and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 covers tested substances in the finished textile.
