What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

5. Refund
You will receive confirmation by e-mail when your return has been received and processed.
This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.
Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

- 163 g/m2 flex1 stretch fabric, bluesign approved
- Zips into 8 listed Norrøna men's shell pants
- Quick-adjust suspenders, front and side pocket
- No membrane: not a waterproof layer on its own
- Uninsulated - adds coverage, not warmth
- Offered in M, L and XL only
The Norrøna flex1 ski/snowboard Zip-in Bib is an uninsulated stretch bib — a chest panel with suspenders and no legs — that zips into compatible Norrøna men's shell pants and extends them upward over the torso. It exists for deep-snow days where snow pushes in at the waist: it converts pants you already own into a bib instead of asking you to buy a second pair. The flex1 stretch woven face fabric weighs 163 g/m2 and is bluesign approved.
Who is the flex1 Zip-in Bib for?
This bib is for the skier or snowboarder who already owns one of the listed Norrøna men's shell pants — lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Plus, lofoten Gore-Tex Pro, lofoten Gore-Tex, lofoten Gore-Tex Insulated, tamok Gore-Tex Thermo40, tamok Gore-Tex, lyngen Gore-Tex Pro or trollveggen Gore-Tex Pro rescue. It is not for pants outside that list, including pants from other brands, because there is no zip-in interface. It is also not a garment on its own: without legs, it only works combined with compatible pants.
How much protection does the Norrøna flex1 Zip-in Bib add?
It adds coverage, not warmth. The construction is a single uninsulated layer of flex1 stretch woven fabric at 163 g/m2, with no insulation and no membrane, so it raises snow and wind protection around the torso and keeps full freedom of movement. If you want a warmer torso, add a mid layer underneath rather than expecting it from this bib.
Which size should you choose?
Choose the same size as your Norrøna pants, because the zip length has to match: S 88 cm, M 94 cm, L 100 cm, XL 106 cm, XXL 112 cm. Between product generations the same size can differ by around 2 cm — the zip-in function still works, but the match may not be exact. This bib is offered in M, L and XL. The size chart on this page shows the measurements.
How does the zip-in system on the Norrøna flex1 Zip-in Bib work?
The Norrøna flex1 ski/snowboard Zip-in Bib has a long zip that runs into the matching zip on the waist of a compatible Norrøna shell pant, so the two become one garment. Each size carries its own zip length — 88 cm in S, 94 cm in M, 100 cm in L, 106 cm in XL and 112 cm in XXL — and that length is what has to line up with the pants. The bib itself is built from flex1 stretch woven fabric at 163 g/m2, with quickly adjustable suspenders, a front pocket and a side pocket. There is no membrane and no insulation in this construction: the fabric's job is stretch, coverage and durability.
Is the flex1 Zip-in Bib suitable for freeride and ski touring?
The compatibility list of the Norrøna flex1 ski/snowboard Zip-in Bib spans disciplines, which is a good guide to where it earns its place. With lofoten Gore-Tex Pro or lofoten Gore-Tex pants it is aimed at deep snow and freeride days, where a high waist stops snow entering when you go in over your hips. With lyngen Gore-Tex Pro and trollveggen Gore-Tex Pro rescue pants it moves into ski mountaineering and alpine terrain. With tamok Gore-Tex and tamok Gore-Tex Thermo40 pants it covers resort skiing and snowboarding. Where it stops: it is not a waterproof torso layer in its own right, it carries no insulation for standing around in deep cold, and the stated compatibility covers men's (M's) pants only.
What is the Norrøna flex1 Zip-in Bib made of and how do you wash it?
The main fabric of the Norrøna flex1 Zip-in Bib is a recycled polyamide and elastane stretch woven, 163 g/m2 and bluesign approved. The elastane content is what gives the bib its give over a base layer or mid layer; the recycled polyamide carries the abrasion. There is no lining, so the garment stays thin under a jacket. Wash gently at 40 °C, do not bleach, tumble dry on low, iron at a maximum of 110 °C and do not dry clean. Because the fabric is a stretch woven without a coating, a gentle wash cycle is the main thing that keeps the stretch and the fabric surface intact.
How sustainable is the flex1 Zip-in Bib?
The main fabric of the Norrøna flex1 ski/snowboard Zip-in Bib is recycled polyamide and is bluesign approved. The product is certified to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS, Textile Exchange) and to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100. It is made in China. Extending pants you already own into a bib, rather than buying a second pair, is part of the same logic.
