Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- RWS-certified 19.5 micron merino, 2-layer knit
- Full polyester fleece lining, warm when standing
- Made in Spain from certified merino wool
- Too bulky under a close-fitting ski helmet
- No membrane or DWR: wets out in wet snow
- One size only, no head circumference published
The Norrøna /29 mid merinoUll logo Beanie is a knitted merino wool beanie with a full polyester fleece lining, made as warm headwear for cold-weather outdoor use and everyday winter wear. The outer knit is RWS-certified 100% extra fine merino wool at 19.5 micron, in a two-layer lightweight knitted construction. Warmth and wind resistance come from the knit and the lining, not from a membrane.
Who is this beanie for?
The /29 mid merinoUll logo Beanie suits anyone who wants a soft, warm merino beanie for cold days in town, on the hill and in transit: lift rides and lunch stops with the helmet off, winter hiking and walking, or a spare warm layer in the pack on alpine and touring days. It is not a thin helmet liner and it is not weather protection. If you ski in a close-fitting helmet, or if you need headwear that holds off rain and wet snow, choose a different style.
How warm is the Norrøna /29 mid merinoUll logo Beanie?
Two layers of fine merino knit plus a full polyester fleece lining put this Norrøna beanie in the mid-weight range, built for standing still in cold, dry conditions rather than for working hard. The 19.5 micron merino is a fine-fibre wool, which is why it sits comfortably against the forehead and ears. For high-output activity in mild weather it is likely to be too warm, and a single-layer unlined beanie makes more sense there.
Which size should you choose?
The /29 mid merinoUll logo Beanie is unisex and comes in one size (OSFA) with a regular fit, so there is no size decision to make. Keep in mind that the two-layer knit with a full fleece lining adds bulk, so plan on wearing it instead of a helmet rather than underneath one. Dry it flat after washing so the knit keeps its shape.
How is the Norrøna /29 mid merinoUll logo Beanie constructed?
The Norrøna /29 mid merinoUll logo Beanie is built from two elements. The outer shell is a two-layer lightweight knitted construction in 100% extra fine merino wool with a fibre diameter of 19.5 micron, certified to the Responsible Wool Standard. Inside sits a full lining in polyester fleece, covering the whole inner surface rather than a headband panel only. The knit gives the structure and the next-to-skin feel, the fleece adds a second insulating surface and slows wind coming through the knit. There is no membrane, no coating and no laminate anywhere in the beanie, so everything it does it does through material and thickness.
Is the /29 mid merinoUll logo Beanie suitable for skiing and ski touring?
On a resort day the /29 mid merinoUll logo Beanie works as the hat you wear when the helmet comes off: lift rides, a long chairlift queue, lunch on the terrace, the walk back to the car. On winter hikes and walks in cold weather it can be worn all day. On touring and alpine days it makes more sense as the spare warm layer in the lid of your pack, pulled on at the summit or at a belay, than as the hat you climb in. Where it stops is clear: it is too bulky to disappear under a close-fitting ski or climbing helmet, no helmet compatibility is claimed, and with no water-repellent finish the wool and fleece will wet out in rain or wet snow. In mild weather and at a high work rate, the fleece-lined mid-weight knit is more warmth than you need.
What is the Norrøna /29 mid merinoUll logo Beanie made of and how do you wash it?
The main fabric is 100% merino wool at 19.5 micron and the lining is polyester fleece. Merino likes a gentle routine, and the care regime here is correspondingly strict: wash on a wool programme at 40 °C only, with similar colours, no bleach and no tumble drying. Stretch the beanie back into shape while it is still wet and dry it flat, which is what keeps a knitted beanie from losing its form over a season. If you iron it, stay at a maximum of 150 °C. Gentle dry cleaning is also an option. Wool is slow to pick up odour, so in practice this is a beanie you air more often than you wash.
What makes this beanie a more responsible buy?
The wool in the /29 mid merinoUll logo Beanie is certified to the Responsible Wool Standard from Textile Exchange, and the style carries the NM15-Wool wool certification in Norrøna's sustainability data. The beanie is made in Spain, so production stays within Europe. Norrøna is family-owned and has been building outdoor equipment since 1929, with durability and repairability as the argument rather than the logo on the front.
