What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 100% RWS-certified merino, 19.5 micron knit
  • Folded brim doubles the wool over the ears
  • Hang loop inside, made in Spain
  • No membrane: wets out in rain and wet snow
  • One size only, fit cannot be adjusted
  • Heavy knit can be too warm for fast touring

The Norrøna /29 heavy merinoUll contrast Beanie is a knitted unisex beanie made from 100% extra fine merino wool at 19.5 micron, built for warmth on cold winter days in the mountains and in town. It comes from the /29 accessories line and is sold in one size (OSFA), with a folded brim, a patch logo on the front and a hang loop on the inside. There is no membrane and no water-repellent finish, so this is a warm wool layer rather than a weather shell for your head.

Who is the Norrøna /29 heavy merinoUll contrast Beanie for?

It suits anyone who wants a warm merino beanie for resort days off the slopes, the drive to and from the mountain, winter hiking, apres-ski and everyday winter wear. It is not the hat to pick if you need a thin liner-style beanie to sit under a ski helmet, and it is not built for sustained rain or wet snow. For fast, high-output ski touring in mild conditions, a heavy merino knit can simply be too warm.

How warm is the Norrøna /29 heavy merinoUll contrast Beanie?

Warmth comes from the heavy knit in 19.5 micron merino wool, not from insulation or a membrane. Merino regulates temperature and resists odour, so the beanie stays comfortable over long days and several wears between washes. What it does not give you is wind or water protection: knitted wool without a membrane offers only limited wind resistance and will wet out in persistent precipitation.

Which size should you choose?

The Norrøna /29 heavy merinoUll contrast Beanie is offered in one size only (OSFA), cut as a regular fit, so there is no size decision to make and no option to adjust the fit by choosing another size. The knit stretches to the head, and the brim can be worn folded for a shorter, double-layer fit over the ears.

How is the Norrøna /29 heavy merinoUll contrast Beanie constructed?

The Norrøna /29 heavy merinoUll contrast Beanie is knitted from extra fine merino wool with a fibre diameter of 19.5 micron, and the main fabric is 100% merino wool. Fine-micron wool makes the knit comfortable directly against the forehead and ears, while the heavy gauge of the knit is what holds warmth. The brim is folded, giving a double thickness of wool where the beanie sits over the ears. A patch logo sits on the front and a hang loop is sewn inside, so the beanie can be hung to dry or clipped into a bag. There is no membrane, no coating and no insulation layer in this beanie: the wool does all the work.

Is the Norrøna /29 heavy merinoUll contrast Beanie suitable for skiing and winter hiking?

For resort days, this beanie covers everything off the slopes: the lift queue in dry cold, the walk to the car, the terrace, and the trip up and down the valley. On winter hikes and general outdoor walks in dry or lightly snowy conditions it works as your main head layer. Where it stops is clear. Without a water-repellent treatment, knitted wool absorbs rain and wet snow and stays damp. Wind protection is limited, because there is no windproof membrane in the construction. And under a helmet it is the wrong tool if you need a thin, low-profile liner, since this is a heavy knit with a folded brim.

What are the materials and how do you care for the Norrøna /29 heavy merinoUll contrast Beanie?

The main fabric is 100% merino wool, knitted in Spain. Wool asks for more care than a synthetic beanie, and following it keeps the knit in shape for years. Wash on a wool programme at a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius, together with similar colours, and skip bleach and the tumble dryer. While the beanie is still wet, stretch it gently back into shape and dry it flat rather than hanging it, so the knit does not sag. If you iron it, stay at 150 degrees Celsius or below; for dry cleaning, choose a gentle process.

What makes the wool in the Norrøna /29 heavy merinoUll contrast Beanie responsible?

The merino wool in this Norrøna /29 beanie is certified to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) from Textile Exchange, which covers animal welfare and land management in the wool supply chain. The beanie is made in Spain. It is available in three colourways: Indigo Night Melange, Grey Melange and Pure Cashmere.
