What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Hydraulic four-way stretch: 93% PES / 7% elastane
- Antibacterial finish limits odour over several days
- Quick-drying knit for high-output ski days
- No membrane: not an outer layer in snow or rain
- Unlined stretch knit, wind passes through it
- Storage limited to one chest pocket
The KJUS Men Hydro Crew Neck is a stretch crew-neck midlayer for skiers who work hard enough to sweat. It is built around the Hydraulic fabric: a 93% polyester, 7% elastane four-way stretch knit that draws moisture off the skin and moves it outward so it can evaporate quickly. What sets it apart from a standard fleece is that it adds freedom of movement and moisture transport under your jacket instead of bulk.
Who is the KJUS Men Hydro Crew Neck for?
This is a layer for high-output alpine skiing, ski touring and other hard winter efforts, worn over a base layer and under a ski jacket or shell. It suits the skier who wants a thin, stretchy, fast-drying layer rather than extra warmth. It is not an outer layer: there is no membrane and no weather protection, so snowfall, rain and wind on a long lift ride all call for a shell over the top. It is also not the layer that keeps you warm while standing still in the cold.
How does the Hydro Crew Neck handle sweat?
The Hydraulic knit moves perspiration from the inside of the fabric to the surface, where the large outer area speeds up evaporation. Because the KJUS Men Hydro Crew Neck has no membrane and no lining, air and water vapour pass straight through the fabric; there are no zipped vents and none are needed. An antibacterial finish is blended into the yarn to limit odour-causing bacteria over several days of use.
Which size should you choose?
The KJUS Men Hydro Crew Neck has a regular fit: standard through chest, waist and hem, average body length and a classic sleeve that ends at the wrist. The KJUS model is 188 cm tall and wears size M I 48-50. Measure your chest, waist, hip and arm length and compare them with the KJUS men's tops chart, because the letter alone can mislead. Leave room for a thin base layer underneath.
What is the Hydraulic fabric in the KJUS Men Hydro Crew Neck?
Hydraulic is the fibre structure KJUS uses to move sweat. The yarn is shaped to pull liquid moisture off the skin surface and transport it to the outside of the knit, where it spreads out and evaporates faster than it would against the body. The fabric is a single-layer construction of 93% polyester and 7% elastane, with no membrane and no lining between you and the outside. That has two consequences you will notice: vapour escapes continuously while you climb or ski, and the knit stretches in four directions so it follows a shoulder rotation or a deep pole plant without pulling at the hem.
Is the Hydro Crew Neck suitable for ski touring?
Yes, and that is the use it is built for. On a skin track the KJUS Men Hydro Crew Neck works over a base layer and under a shell you can open and close as the effort changes; the knit keeps shifting sweat outward instead of holding it against your chest. On the piste it does the same job on bump runs, race laps and any day where you generate your own heat. Where it stops is clear: on a slow bluebird day with long lift rides, or at a mountain restaurant terrace, this knit alone will not keep you warm, and wind passes straight through it. Put an insulated jacket or a windproof shell over it for those moments.
What is the KJUS Men Hydro Crew Neck made of and how do you wash it?
The main fabric is 93% polyester with 7% elastane. Polyester carries very little moisture in the fibre itself, which is why the knit dries fast; the elastane gives the stretch and the recovery that keep the garment from bagging out at the elbows. An antibacterial finish is worked into the fabric to slow the growth of odour-causing bacteria, which matters on a layer worn directly over a base layer day after day. Machine wash at 30 °C and tumble dry at low temperature. Do not bleach, do not iron and do not dry clean: heat and solvents damage the elastane and the finish. Washing it regularly at low temperature is better for the fabric than letting salts and body oils build up in the knit.
What should you know before you order?
The KJUS Men Hydro Crew Neck is a crew neck, so it gives you no neck or head coverage; the collar of your jacket does that work. Storage is limited to a single chest pocket, enough for a pass or a phone and nothing more. Think of it as the engine-room layer in your system: light, elastic, fast-drying, and dependent on the shell you choose to put over it.
