What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Helly Hansen Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer is a lightweight women's hooded midlayer for camping, hiking and mountaineering, made to be worn between a base layer and an outer shell. What sets it apart is the head-and-neck coverage: a constructed hood, a high collar and an anti-chafe chin guard, combined with thumb holes and flatlock seams. The design won a 2024 German Design Award.

Who is the Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer for?

The Helly Hansen Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer suits women who hike, camp or go mountaineering and want a breathable hooded layer under their shell. It also works as a light midlayer under a ski or mountain jacket. It is not the right choice if you need an outer layer for rain or wet snow, or a single warm layer for cold, static days at the lift. On exposed, windy terrain, plan to wear a shell over it.

How warm and weather-resistant is this hooded midlayer?

The Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer by Helly Hansen is a lightweight, breathable midlayer, not an insulated jacket. Its shell is 100% polyester. On its own it gives limited warmth in cold conditions, so it performs best when you are moving and a shell sits on top. It is not a waterproof garment: in rain or snow, wear a waterproof jacket over it. The constructed hood and high collar cover your head and neck, and the anti-chafe chin guard reduces rubbing at the chin.

Which size should I choose?

The Helly Hansen Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer is cut as a midlayer, to be worn over a base layer and under a shell. Choose your size with the Helly Hansen women's top size chart on this product page, and compare your own body measurements with the chart rather than relying on the size you wear in other brands. Before you order, check that your outer jacket has enough room to be worn over this midlayer.

How is the Helly Hansen Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer constructed?

The Helly Hansen Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer is built as a mono-material garment: the shell is made entirely from polyester. A constructed hood and a high protective collar shield your head and neck from the elements, and an anti-chafe chin guard sits where the collar meets your face. Flatlock seams lie flat against the body, which adds comfort when the midlayer is worn under a shell or a backpack. Thumb holes keep the sleeves in place when you pull a jacket or gloves over them. The zipper is from YKK®, a hand pocket with a concealed zipper holds small items securely, and the Helly Hansen (HH) logo is embroidered.

Can you wear the Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer for hiking, mountaineering and skiing?

Helly Hansen lists the women's Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer for camping, hiking and mountaineering. On a hike, it is a light layer over your base layer that keeps the hood within reach for cooler stretches. At camp, the high collar and hood add coverage once you stop moving, ideally with a jacket on top. For mountaineering, the Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer sits under your shell as part of a layering system. On the piste, it works as a light midlayer under a ski jacket. This is also where it stops: it is not a ski outer layer, it does not keep you dry in rain or wet snow, and it is not warm enough as your only layer on a cold day of chairlifts and queues. With a single hand pocket, keep your phone, ski pass and snacks in your shell or backpack.

What is the Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer made of, and how do you wash it?

The shell of the Helly Hansen Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer is 100% polyester, a single fibre type throughout the outer fabric. Washing is straightforward. Close all zippers before washing, so the zipper teeth do not catch on the fabric. Turn the midlayer inside out, which protects the outer face and the embroidered logo in the drum. Wash it with similar colours to avoid colour transfer, especially with the darker Navy colourway.

How sustainable is the Helly Hansen Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer?

The Helly Hansen Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer is a bluesign® product. It uses Oceanbound recycled materials and follows a mono-material construction, with a shell of 100% polyester. A garment made from one material type is simpler to sort for textile recycling than one that blends different fibres. These three points make the Evolved Air Hooded Midlayer a considered choice if the origin and end of life of your outdoor clothing matter to you.
