What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak is a women's pullover softshell anorak for hiking, camping and outdoor days with wind and light showers. It pairs a windproof, water-repellent 4-way stretch shell with a lined interior, combining the protection of a softshell with some of the warmth of a fleece.

Who is the Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak for?

The Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak suits women who hike, camp or spend time outdoors in breezy, changeable weather and want a light outer layer that moves with them. It is not a rain jacket and not a ski jacket. Choose a waterproof shell if you expect sustained or heavy rain, and an insulated jacket if you ski on cold resort days. If you prefer a full-zip jacket that is quick to take off, or if you need a hood, this pullover anorak with a high collar is the wrong choice.

How weatherproof is the Cascade Shield softshell anorak?

The Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak blocks wind and sheds light rain. The shell is a 4-way stretch softshell fabric of 90% polyester and 10% elastane, finished with a Durable Water Repellency (DWR) treatment that makes water bead on the surface during short showers. The anorak is water repellent, not waterproof, and is built for light showers rather than a day of steady rain. It is lined for comfort but has no insulation fill, so the warmth it adds is light.

Which size of the Cascade Shield Anorak should I choose?

The Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak is a pullover: it goes on over your head. A high collar, elastic cuffs and an adjustable drawcord at the hem close it off against wind, and the 4-way stretch fabric gives you freedom of movement. Compare your body measurements with the Helly Hansen women's jacket size chart on this product page before you order.

How is the Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak built?

The Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak uses a softshell construction rather than a membrane shell. The outer fabric is a 4-way stretch softshell of 90% polyester and 10% elastane. A Durable Water Repellency (DWR) treatment on the surface makes light rain bead and roll off. Inside, the anorak is lined for comfort, and there is no insulation fill. Together this makes a windproof, water-repellent layer that stretches in every direction as you move.

The details on the women's Cascade Shield Anorak are made to keep wind out and small items within reach. A high collar protects your neck, elastic cuffs close the sleeves, and a drawcord lets you tighten the hem. You get two hand pockets with secure YKK® zippers and a front kangaroo pocket. The anorak has a colour-block design with an embroidered HH logo and is available in the colours Cactus and Ebony.

Is the Cascade Shield Anorak suitable for hiking and camping?

Hiking and camping are what the Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak is designed for. On a breezy walk the windproof softshell keeps gusts off your body, the DWR treatment handles a passing shower, and the stretch fabric follows every step and reach. Around camp, the kangaroo pocket and zipped hand pockets keep your hands and essentials close.

The Cascade Shield softshell anorak has clear limits on the trail. In sustained or heavy rain you need a waterproof shell. The pullover silhouette has no full-length front opening, so you cannot unzip it fully to vent on a steep climb or take it off quickly. There is a high collar but no hood, so bring a hat or a hooded layer if the weather can turn.

Can you ski in the Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak?

The Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak is not a ski jacket. On a mild, dry piste day it can work, and the 4-way stretch helps freedom of movement. As the only outer layer for resort skiing in the cold, it is too light, because it has no insulation fill. It is not made for freeride or deep snow, as it has no hood, no snow skirt and no waterproof construction, and it is not built for high-alpine use or mountaineering in severe weather.

What is the Cascade Shield Anorak made of and how do you care for it?

The shell of the Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak is 90% polyester and 10% elastane. The elastane gives the fabric its 4-way stretch, and the polyester carries the DWR finish. Close all zippers before you wash the anorak, and do not use fabric softener.

Is the Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak a bluesign® product?

Yes. The Helly Hansen Cascade Shield Anorak is a bluesign® product.
