What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.

Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

  • Fixed 80 g insulation: warm on mild spring days
  • 850 g and insulated: too heavy for ski touring

The Helly Hansen Edge 3.0 Jacket is a women's insulated ski jacket for resort and piste skiing. It pairs a waterproof, breathable and windproof HELLY TECH® Performance shell with 80 g PrimaLoft Black synthetic insulation. On-mountain safety and comfort details are built in: RECCO® reflectors, a LIFE POCKET™ that helps preserve your phone battery in the cold, an adjustable powder skirt and mechanical ventilation zips.

Who is the Helly Hansen Edge 3.0 Jacket for?

The Edge 3.0 Jacket suits women who spend full days on groomed runs and want one warm ski jacket that handles wind, snow and cold. It also works for off-piste runs close to the lifts, helped by the powder skirt and RECCO® reflectors. It is not built for ski touring ascents. The fixed insulation and 850 g weight run hot on the skin track, even with the vents open. If you want an uninsulated shell to combine with your own midlayers, or a light jacket to carry in a backpack, a shell jacket is the better choice.

How warm and weatherproof is the Edge 3.0 ski jacket?

Warmth comes from 80 g PrimaLoft Black, a light, blowable synthetic insulation, plus a full lining. The 2-layer HELLY TECH® Performance shell is fully seam sealed and windproof. Wrist gaiters, a high protective collar with a soft fleece chin guard and an adjustable hood keep cold air out at the openings. The insulation cannot be removed, so on mild or spring days the mechanical ventilation zips are your only way to release heat.

Which size should I choose in the Edge 3.0 Jacket?

Take your body measurements and compare them with the Helly Hansen women's jacket size chart on this page. The Edge 3.0 Jacket is cut for movement: no shoulder seams and articulated elbows give freedom when you plant your poles. The hem drawcord, adjustable cuffs and powder skirt let you close the jacket around your body and gloves. This is the women's version of the ski jacket.

How is the Helly Hansen Edge 3.0 Jacket constructed?

The Helly Hansen Edge 3.0 Jacket is a 2-layer insulated ski jacket. The outer layer combines a 100% polyester shell fabric with the HELLY TECH® Performance membrane, which is waterproof, breathable and windproof. Every seam on the shell is sealed. Inside, a separate lining in polyamide and polyester covers the insulation. That insulation is PrimaLoft Black 80 g, a light, blowable synthetic fill in 100% polyester, used in both the body and the sleeves. The shell keeps weather out, the PrimaLoft layer holds warmth, and the lining makes the jacket comfortable to wear over a base layer.

How does the Edge 3.0 ski jacket perform on the piste?

On the piste, the Helly Hansen Edge 3.0 Jacket keeps everyday essentials organised. A dedicated ski pass pocket sits ready for the lift gates, the chest pocket has a low-profile zipper and a goggle wipe, and the hand pockets close with secure zippers. An inside stash pocket holds gloves or a buff. The LIFE POCKET™ is designed to preserve your phone battery in the cold. Wrist gaiters and adjustable cuffs with a fastener stop snow from entering at the sleeves during a fall or a lift ride.

Can you ski off-piste in the Edge 3.0 Jacket?

The Edge 3.0 Jacket is a piste-concept ski jacket that Helly Hansen also lists for off-piste skiing. The adjustable powder skirt seals the gap above your trousers in deep snow, the adjustable hood fits over the head, and RECCO® reflectors make you detectable to rescue teams equipped with RECCO® detectors. For side-country runs from the lifts, this is a capable jacket. Its limits show on the way up: fixed 80 g insulation and 850 g of weight make the Edge 3.0 Jacket too warm and heavy for ski touring ascents. It has no climbing-specific features, and as a 2-layer construction with a separate lining it is less suited to heavy-duty high-alpine use than a 3-layer shell.

What is the Edge 3.0 Jacket made of and how do you wash it?

The shell of the Helly Hansen Edge 3.0 Jacket is 100% polyester. The three lining fabrics are 100% polyamide, 100% polyester and 100% polyamide, and the insulation in body and sleeves is 100% polyester. Before washing this ski jacket, close all zippers and hook-and-loop fasteners so they do not snag the fabric. Wash it with similar colours and leave out fabric softener. The jacket also has an internal hanging loop for drying and storage. It comes in the colourways Red and Alpine Frost.

Is the Helly Hansen Edge 3.0 Jacket a sustainable choice?

Helly Hansen lists the Edge 3.0 Jacket as a bluesign® product. This label refers to the textile production standard behind the materials of this women's ski jacket.
