Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 80 g LIFALOFT synthetic insulation
- Stretch fleece panels for freedom of movement
- 430 g, packs small, PFC-free DWR
- Water-repellent only, no waterproof membrane
- Hybrid: fleece panels, not insulated throughout
- 80 g midlayer: too light for static cold days
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket is a men's hybrid insulator jacket that combines 80 g LIFALOFT synthetic insulation with stretch, slick-face fleece panels. It is designed as an insulating midlayer for ski touring, backcountry skiing, hiking and camping, and at 430 g it packs down small enough to carry as a spare layer.
Who is the Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket for?
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket suits skiers and hikers who want a light, packable insulating layer to wear under a shell. It also works as a midlayer under your ski shell on the piste. It is not a waterproof ski jacket. It is also not meant as the only outer layer in rain, wet snow or sustained snowfall, or for long, static, cold resort days such as cold chairlift rides.
How warm is the LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket?
The LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket uses 80 g LIFALOFT insulation, a synthetic fibre blend of 70% polypropylene and 30% polyester. The hybrid construction adds stretch fleece panels, so the jacket is not insulated with LIFALOFT throughout. That makes it a midlayer or active-insulation piece rather than a cold-weather outer jacket. The outer fabric has a PFC-free DWR treatment. It is water-repellent, not waterproof, so wear a shell over it in wet weather.
Which size should I choose for the LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket?
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket has a regular fit, with stretch panels for fit and freedom of movement. It is a midlayer, so it is made to sit over a base layer and under an outer shell. Check that your shell has room for it. Use the men's midlayer size chart on this product page to choose your size.
How is the Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket constructed?
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket is a hybrid design that combines two materials. Insulated sections are filled with 80 g LIFALOFT, a synthetic blend of 70% polypropylene and 30% polyester. Stretch, slick-face fleece panels are worked into the jacket for fit and freedom of movement. The jacket uses two outer fabrics: a 100% polyamide shell and a stretch fabric of 50% polyamide, 41% polyester and 9% elastane. The lining is 100% polyamide. The outer fabric has a PFC-free DWR (Durable Water Repellency) treatment. There is no membrane, so the jacket repels water but is not waterproof.
Is the Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket suitable for ski touring?
Helly Hansen lists the LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket for ski touring and backcountry skiing, as well as hiking, camping and general winter use. On a touring day, the stretch panels let you move freely, and the 430 g jacket packs down small, so it fits easily in your pack for breaks, transitions and the descent. It is not a stand-alone outer jacket. With DWR only and no waterproof membrane, it needs a shell over it in rain, wet snow or sustained snowfall.
Can I wear the LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket under a ski shell at the resort?
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket works as an insulating midlayer under a ski shell on the piste. The regular fit with stretch panels is designed to sit between a base layer and an outer jacket. Worn on its own, the 80 g synthetic hybrid construction is not built for long, static, cold resort days such as cold chairlift rides. For that use, a fully insulated ski jacket is the better choice.
What is the LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket made of, and how do you care for it?
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket is made entirely from synthetic fibres: polyamide in the shell and lining, a polyamide, polyester and elastane blend in the stretch fabric, and polypropylene with polyester in the LIFALOFT insulation. Close all zippers before washing and wash dark colours separately. Do not use fabric softener. If you use a dryer, remove the jacket promptly once the cycle ends. Do not iron over the printed areas.
How sustainable is the Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket?
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT Hybrid Insulator Jacket uses a PFC-free DWR treatment for its water repellency. The main material is bluesign certified.
