Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Roomy forearms fit over arm guards and gloves
- 60 g and 80 g PrimaLoft Black Ocean Recycled
- 2-layer HELLY TECH Professional, fully seam sealed
- 1,350 g: heavy for a ski jacket
- Insulated: runs warm on mild days and skin tracks
- 2-layer lined build, not a mountaineering shell
The Helly Hansen Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket is a men's insulated ski jacket developed with and for the Team Telenor Alpine Norway ski teams and other alpine racers. It pairs a 2-layer HELLY TECH® Professional waterproof, breathable construction with 60 g and 80 g PrimaLoft® Black Ocean Recycled insulation. Its forearms are cut roomy enough for arm guards and gloves, so it goes on and off smoothly between runs.
Who is the Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket for?
The Helly Hansen Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket suits racers on training and race days, teams outfitting with the Kvitfjell Race range, and piste skiers who want a warm, race-bred jacket. With a powder skirt, hood and RECCO® it also handles off-piste days. It is not meant for ski touring ascents, climbing or technical alpinism. It also does not suit skiers who want a light, packable shell for their own layering system, because the insulation is built in and the stated weight is 1,350 g.
How warm and waterproof is the Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket?
The Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket uses PrimaLoft® Black Ocean Recycled synthetic insulation in 60 g and 80 g. That is a moderate level of warmth for lift-served skiing, where the jacket is your warm outer layer. The 2-layer HELLY TECH® Professional shell is fully seam sealed and has a PFC-free DWR finish against snow, rain and wind. Ventilation openings release heat. On mild days or during sustained hard effort, it still runs warmer than an uninsulated shell.
Which size should I choose in the Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket?
The Helly Hansen Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket has a race-oriented cut with articulated sleeves and 4-way stretch fabric for full range of motion. The forearms are deliberately roomy to fit over racing arm guards and gloves, so expect extra volume at the lower sleeve. Compare your measurements with the Helly Hansen men's size chart on this page. Plan for a base layer or light midlayer underneath, because the insulation already provides the warmth.
How is the Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket constructed?
The Helly Hansen Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket is built on a 2-layer HELLY TECH® Professional construction. The waterproof, breathable membrane works with a 4-way stretch shell of 85% polyamide and 15% elastane, with a separate lining on the inside. Every seam is sealed. PrimaLoft® Black Ocean Recycled insulation in 60 g and 80 g sits between shell and lining. The stretch shell and articulated sleeves let the jacket follow you in a low race stance. A full inner front placket backs the front zip, and a brushed tricot collar sits soft against the chin.
How does the Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket work on race and training days?
On race and training days, the forearms of the Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket are the defining detail. They are cut with enough space for arm guards and gloves, so you can pull the jacket on and off at the start or between runs without taking off your protection. The adjustable hood has a neon colour brim and the cuffs adjust with a fastener. A ski pass pocket, a phone holder inside pocket, an inside stash pocket and a chest pocket with goggle wipe keep small items organised. The chest and hand pockets close with YKK® zippers. The jacket belongs to the Kvitfjell Race range, which is designed to outfit a ski racing team from head to toe, and it won a 2023 ISPO Award.
Can you use the Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket off-piste or for ski touring?
The Helly Hansen Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket is listed for off-piste skiing as well as resort skiing. It has an adjustable powder skirt, an adjustable hood, RECCO® and a LIFE POCKET™. Its limits show on the way up. With 60 g and 80 g insulation and a stated weight of 1,350 g, it runs warm and heavy on a skin track, so ski tourers are better served by a lighter, uninsulated shell. It is also not a mountaineering or climbing jacket. The 2-layer lined construction and powder skirt make it a ski jacket rather than a mobile alpine shell.
What is the Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket made of, and how do you wash it?
The shell of the Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket is 85% polyamide and 15% elastane, and the elastane gives the fabric its 4-way stretch. The main lining is 86% polyester and 14% elastane, with additional linings in 100% polyamide and 100% polyester. Before washing, close all zippers and hook-and-loop fasteners. Use a detergent made for technical garments and do not use fabric softener.
How sustainable is the Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket?
The Helly Hansen Kvitfjell Race Insulated Ski Jacket is a bluesign® product. Its PrimaLoft® Black Ocean Recycled insulation uses ocean-bound recycled material. The water-repellent finish is a PFC-free DWR.
