Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- PrimaLoft® BLACK insulation in a stretch shell
- HELLY TECH® Performance 2-layer, fully seam sealed
- RECCO® transponder and dedicated ski pass pocket
- Insulated: runs warm on long skinning ascents
- Fixed insulation: not a shell for your own layers
- Lined 2-layer build, not a packable minimalist shell
The Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket is a men's insulated ski jacket for resort skiing. It combines a waterproof, breathable and windproof HELLY TECH® Performance 2-layer shell with PrimaLoft® BLACK insulation. What sets it apart is freedom of movement: mechanical stretch and an Arcticulated cut let the jacket move with you on the piste, and a RECCO® transponder is built in.
Who is the Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket for?
The Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket suits skiers who spend their days on lift-served runs and want warmth and weather protection in one insulated ski jacket. It also works for off-piste runs reached from the lift. It is not the right choice for ski touring with long skinning ascents, because the insulation runs warm during sustained uphill effort. It is also not built for climbing or for high-alpine mountaineering in prolonged extreme cold. If you prefer an uninsulated shell and want to build your own layering system, choose a different jacket, because the insulation in the Gravity is built in.
How waterproof and warm is the Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket?
The HELLY TECH® Performance membrane in the Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket is waterproof, breathable and windproof. All seams are fully sealed, so water cannot get in through the stitching. A PFC-free DWR finish helps water bead off the outer fabric. PrimaLoft® BLACK synthetic insulation provides lightweight warmth, and mesh ventilation adds breathability when you work hard on the slope. A 100% polyester lining makes the inside comfortable against your midlayer.
Which size of the Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket should I choose?
The Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket has a regular fit, so it is neither slim nor oversized. The Arcticulated cut and mechanical stretch give you room to move through turns and when you plant your poles. To find your size, compare your own chest and body measurements with the size chart on this product page.
How is the Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket constructed?
The Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket is built in three parts that work together. On the outside is a HELLY TECH® Performance 2-layer construction. The membrane is bonded to the outer fabric, where it keeps out wind and water while letting moisture vapour escape. Behind the shell sits a layer of PrimaLoft® BLACK insulation, and a 100% polyester lining finishes the inside. Every seam is fully sealed. The outer fabric has mechanical stretch, and the Arcticulated cut follows the way your arms and shoulders move when you ski. Mesh ventilation adds breathability, and the main zip is a YKK® zipper.
Can you ski off-piste in the Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket?
The Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket is a piste jacket first, made for resort skiing on lift-served terrain. It also handles off-piste runs that you reach from the lift. A RECCO® transponder is integrated into the jacket, so rescue teams using RECCO® detectors can locate you. The ski details are practical. A chin guard sits where the collar meets your face when the jacket is zipped up. A tail drop lengthens the back to keep snow out when you sit on a chairlift or in powder. Adjustable cuffs close around your gloves. A dedicated ski pass pocket keeps your lift card in one place. Chest and hand pockets, plus an inside stash pocket, take your phone, goggles cloth and snacks. The insulated ski jacket stops being the right tool once you start climbing under your own power. On a long bootpack to an off-piste line, or when skinning uphill, the PrimaLoft® BLACK insulation will make you overheat. The 2-layer construction with a separate lining is also not designed as a minimalist or packable shell for your backpack.
What is the Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket made of, and how do you care for it?
The lining of the Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket is 100% polyester, and the insulation is PrimaLoft® BLACK. Before washing, close all zips and hook-and-loop fastenings so they do not catch on the fabric. Turn the jacket inside out and wash dark colours separately. Do not use fabric softener. After washing, tumble dry the jacket, because heat reactivates the PFC-free DWR water-repellent treatment on the outer fabric. Regular care keeps water beading on the surface, so the HELLY TECH® Performance membrane can keep breathing as intended.
How sustainable is the Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket?
The Helly Hansen Gravity Jacket is a bluesign® product. Its water-repellent finish is a PFC-free DWR. The fabric is coloured with Ecoe.dye® solution dyeing, a process in which colour is added at the fibre stage rather than in a separate dye bath. The insulated ski jacket also contains recycled content.
