Meer informatieWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 40 g PrimaLoft® Gold Cross Core™ insulation
- Adjustable waist and elastic suspenders
- 4-way super stretch shell, articulated knees
- 40 g fill: needs a warm base layer in deep cold
- Insulated, so runs warm on long skinning ascents
- Fixed insulation, not a shell to layer freely
The Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants are men's insulated ski bib pants for experienced skiers who spend most of their time on the resort. They pair a HELLY TECH® Performance waterproof/breathable construction with 40 g PrimaLoft® Gold Cross Core™ insulation and a 4-way super stretch shell. Adjustable elastic suspenders, mechanical ventilation zippers and a RECCO® reflector complete the package.
Who are the Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants for?
The Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants suit experienced skiers who ride mainly on piste and want a ski bib that stays dry, adds light warmth and moves with them. They are not the right choice for long ski-touring ascents, because the fixed insulation builds heat when you skin uphill, even with the vents open. Skiers who want an uninsulated shell pant to layer freely, or a pant for climbing and technical mountaineering, should choose another model.
How warm and waterproof are the Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants?
The Alpha Bib Pants use 40 g PrimaLoft® Gold Cross Core™ insulation in 100% polyester. That is light insulation, built for active resort days rather than expedition cold, so on very cold, static days you need a warm base layer underneath. The HELLY TECH® Performance membrane keeps these ski bib pants waterproof and breathable, and mechanical ventilation zippers let you release heat during harder runs. A water-repellent treatment on the outer fabric is reactivated by tumble drying.
Which size of the Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants should you choose?
The Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants combine 4-way super stretch fabric and articulated knees with an adjustable waist and adjustable elastic suspenders. Because both the waist and the suspender length adjust, you can fine-tune the fit within one size. Compare your body measurements with the size chart on this product page and choose the size that matches.
How are the Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants constructed?
The Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants combine a stretch outer fabric, a HELLY TECH® Performance membrane, synthetic insulation and a stretch lining. The membrane is the waterproof/breathable barrier: it keeps snow and moisture from the outside out, while water vapour from your body can escape. The outer is a 4-way super stretch fabric, so the pants follow you when you crouch, flex your knees or get back up after a fall. Inside, 40 g PrimaLoft® Gold Cross Core™ insulation adds light warmth. The lining combines a polyester/elastane stretch fabric with a polyamide fabric and a 3D mesh fabric construction.
Can you use the Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants off-piste or for ski touring?
The Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants are designed first for resort and piste skiing. Reinforcement on the bottom leg, articulated knees and a bib construction with adjustable elastic suspenders are the ski-specific details here. Zippered hand pockets and a zippered back pocket keep small items secure, and belt loops let you add a belt if you prefer.
The Alpha Bib Pants also suit off-piste days next to the piste. The waterproof/breathable shell and the bib construction work in deeper snow, and the RECCO® reflector makes you searchable with RECCO® detectors. For ski touring, the stretch fabric and mechanical ventilation zippers help on short climbs, but the fixed 40 g insulation runs warm on sustained ascents. These ski bib pants have no climbing-specific features and are not intended for technical mountaineering.
What are the Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants made of, and how do you wash them?
The outer fabric of the Helly Hansen Alpha Bib Pants uses two stretch shells: 85% polyamide with 15% elastane, and 89% polyester with 11% elastane. The lining combines 86% polyester and 14% elastane with a 100% polyamide fabric, and the PrimaLoft® insulation is 100% polyester. The elastane content gives the shell and lining their stretch.
To care for the Alpha Bib Pants, close all zippers and hook-and-loop fastenings before washing, skip fabric softener and take the pants out of the machine promptly. Wash dark colours separately. Bright colours may fade somewhat over time, which is worth knowing if you choose Cerulean Blue over Grey Fog, Black or Navy. Tumble dry after washing to reactivate the water-repellent treatment on the outer fabric.
