What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Arc'teryx Sabre Jacket is an uninsulated three-layer GORE-TEX hardshell for men, built for downhill-oriented freeride skiing and snowboarding, in-bounds and out. It is a weather shell rather than a warm jacket: a waterproof, windproof three-layer laminate with a DWR finish on the face fabric, combined with the hardware a full lift day asks for, including a powder skirt, pit zips, a helmet-compatible StormHood and a RECCO reflector.

Who is the Sabre Jacket for?

This is a jacket for a skier or snowboarder who rides hard on and off piste in all weather and already owns insulating layers. The Arc'teryx Sabre Jacket gives you storm protection and ski-specific features; the warmth comes from what you wear underneath. It is the wrong choice as a stand-alone winter jacket, and the wrong choice for standing still in deep cold without a midlayer. If you count grams for fast-and-light ski touring, a minimalist shell without a powder skirt and ski pockets suits you better.

How much weather protection does the Sabre Jacket give?

The three-layer GORE-TEX construction bonds the face fabric, the membrane and the backer into one panel, so the Arc'teryx Sabre Jacket blocks wind and driving snow without a loose lining flapping against your midlayer. A DWR finish keeps the outer face shedding water so the fabric does not wet out and stays breathable; refresh it when water starts soaking in instead of beading. Pit zips let you dump heat on a bootpack or a warm spring lap, and the StormHood fits over a helmet and cinches down with a drawcord.

Which size should you choose?

Arc'teryx cuts the Sabre Jacket in a Regular fit, with room through chest, waist, hip and thigh so it layers over a fleece or an insulated jacket. Measure your chest and compare it with the Arc'teryx men's tops size chart on this page, and allow space for the midlayer you actually ski in. Sizes run XS to XL in Black; Blaze is offered in M, L and XL.

How is the Arc'teryx Sabre Jacket built?

The Arc'teryx Sabre Jacket is a three-layer hardshell: the face fabric, the GORE-TEX membrane and the inner backer are laminated into a single fabric. That construction is what makes the jacket waterproof and windproof while still moving vapour outward, and it is why there is no separate lining to twist over your midlayer. A DWR treatment on the outer surface makes water bead and roll off, which keeps the face fabric from saturating and keeps the membrane working. There is no insulation in the jacket at all, so every bit of warmth you feel comes from the layers you choose underneath it.

Is the Sabre Jacket suitable for freeride and resort skiing?

Freeride skiing and snowboarding is exactly what the Arc'teryx Sabre Jacket was built around, on piste and in lift-accessed sidecountry. The powder skirt with gripper elastic and snap closure seals the hem against snow on a deep day or after a fall. Two hand pockets, two internal dump pockets, a zippered pocket on the upper left sleeve and a zippered security pocket handle skins, gloves, a phone and a pass. A RECCO reflector adds a passive search signal for organised rescue, which does not replace a transceiver, probe and shovel. Where it stops: this is a feature-rich downhill shell, heavier and bulkier than a stripped-back alpine or touring jacket, and it gives you no warmth on its own. For long cold lift rides or standing around at the base, put an insulated midlayer underneath.

How do you wash and care for the Sabre Jacket?

Hardshells work best clean, because dirt and body oils in the face fabric pull water into the weave. Wash the Arc'teryx Sabre Jacket on a medium machine cycle with all zips and closures done up, on its own and without fabric softener, then run a double rinse to clear detergent out of the laminate. Take it out of the machine straight away rather than leaving it wet, and tumble dry on medium, which also helps reactivate the DWR finish. Do not bleach, do not iron and do not dry clean. Refresh the water-repellent finish with a proper hardshell treatment once water starts soaking into the surface instead of beading up. Like other synthetic shell fabrics, it can release plastic microfibres in the wash, so wash it when it needs it rather than after every outing.

What does the Sabre line stand for inside the Arc'teryx range?

Within the Arc'teryx range, Sabre is the resort and freeride line: hardshells for riders who go downhill fast in bad weather and want ski-specific detailing instead of minimal weight. The Sabre Jacket sits at the weather-protection end of that idea, pairing a three-layer GORE-TEX build with a helmet-compatible StormHood, hook-and-loop cuff adjustment and a powder skirt, and leaving the warmth to your layering system.

Gore-Tex is a high-quality waterproof and breathable technology that provides protection against rain, snow, and wind.
