What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

  • No wind or water protection: needs a shell
  • Fitted cut: only a thin layer fits underneath
  • Only offered in M, L and XL

The Arc'teryx Rho SV Zip Neck is a men's synthetic fleece base layer top for cold-weather skiing, worn next to the skin under a midlayer or shell. It is the warmest base layer in the Arc'teryx Rho line: a hollow-core fleece in a Fitted cut, with an extended zip-neck collar you can open for ventilation or close over the neck. Warmth without bulk is the whole point of this top.

Who is the Rho SV Zip Neck for?

The Arc'teryx Rho SV Zip Neck suits a skier who runs cold and wants the warmest first layer in the Rho line for resort days, freeride and cold-weather touring or alpine use. It is the wrong choice if you want a light base layer for mild weather or sustained high-output efforts, if you prefer a relaxed cut with room for a thick layer underneath, or if you specifically want a merino top. It is also not a top for people who need a high, close-fitting collar for neck protection.

How warm is the Arc'teryx Rho SV Zip Neck?

This is the warmest base layer top Arc'teryx makes in the Rho line, and the warmth comes from the construction rather than from added insulation: a synthetic hollow-core fleece that holds air inside the fibre while staying thin and breathable. The zip neck is your thermostat on the move. There is no membrane, no wind protection and no water resistance, so the Rho SV Zip Neck always works underneath a shell or midlayer once the weather turns.

Which size should you choose?

Arc'teryx cuts the Rho SV Zip Neck as a Fitted top: close through chest, waist and hip so it layers flat under a midlayer or shell. Take your usual Arc'teryx size. If you have broad shoulders or long arms, check the men's tops size chart on this page before deciding. This style is offered in M, L and XL, and the slim cut leaves room for a thin first layer underneath at most.

How is the Arc'teryx Rho SV Zip Neck constructed?

The Arc'teryx Rho SV Zip Neck is built from a synthetic hollow-core fleece, a construction in which the fibre carries air inside itself, so the fabric traps warmth while staying low in profile. Articulated patterning through the sleeves and body follows a skier's posture, which keeps the hem and the cuffs where you put them when you reach for a pole plant or stand up out of a turn. A laminated chest pocket sits flat against the body instead of adding a seam ridge under a shell. The collar is extended, so the neck zip gives you two settings: open to dump heat through the throat and chest, closed to cover the neck under a helmet.

Is the Rho SV Zip Neck suitable for resort skiing and ski touring?

Arc'teryx intends the Rho SV Zip Neck base layer for resort skiing, freeride, cold-weather ski touring and alpine use, always worn under a midlayer or a shell. On cold lift-served days it does its best work: the fleece holds warmth while you stand around at the top station, and the zip neck handles the short bursts of heat on the way down. On a skin track it has a clear ceiling. As the warmest top in the Rho line, it can run too hot on high-output ascents or in mild conditions, where a lighter base layer is the better tool. It is also not a garment that ever faces the weather directly: with no membrane, no wind protection and no water resistance, it needs a shell over it in wind, rain or snow.

What is the Rho SV Zip Neck like against the skin, and how do you wash it?

This is a fleece base layer, so the soft face of the fabric sits directly against your skin. Arc'teryx designs the Rho SV Zip Neck to be worn as a first layer, and the low-profile Fitted cut also allows it to sit over a thin first layer if you prefer that. Washing is straightforward and worth doing properly, because fleece loses loft faster when it is treated roughly. Machine wash the Rho SV Zip Neck gentle at low temperature, inside out and separately from other dark colours. Skip fabric softener and bleach entirely: softener coats the fibres and flattens the hand of the fleece. Tumble dry gentle at low temperature and take the top out of the dryer as soon as the cycle ends. Do not iron it and do not dry clean it.

What should you know about this fleece and the environment?

Like other synthetic fleeces, the fabric of the Arc'teryx Rho SV Zip Neck may release plastic microfibres into the environment when it is washed. Practically, that is an argument for washing it only when it needs it, on a gentle low-temperature cycle, rather than after every day on the hill. Airing the top out between ski days extends the interval between washes and keeps the fleece performing as it was built to.
