What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 185 g/m2 Torrent brushed fleece, stretch knit
- Deep zip and tall collar vent without undressing
- Flatlock seams and gussets, 245 g total
- No membrane or windproofing: needs a shell
- Fitted cut: only a thin layer fits underneath
- Offered here in M, L and XL only
The Arc'teryx Rho LT Zip Neck is a men's mid-weight synthetic base layer in 185 g/m2 Torrentâ„¢ brushed stretch fleece, made to sit next to the skin under a midlayer and a shell. The deep front zip and tall collar are the point of difference: you can dump heat on a climb or on a hot chairlift without opening your shell. It is a layering piece for cool to cold days, with no membrane and no wind protection of its own.
Who is the Rho LT Zip Neck for?
This Arc'teryx base layer suits resort skiers, tourers, freeriders, hikers and cold-weather trail runners who want one stretchy, odour-controlled top that slides under everything else. It is not an outer layer, so it needs a shell in wind, rain or snow. If your days are mild and the effort is sustained and hard, a thinner base layer will breathe and dry faster than this one.
How warm is the Rho LT Zip Neck?
The body is a single-layer jersey knit at 185 g/m2, brushed on the inside, in 84% polyester and 16% elastane, with the whole garment weighing 245 g. That puts the Arc'teryx Rho LT Zip Neck above a plain thin base layer in warmth but below a fleece midlayer. Treat it as the warm first layer in a system for cool to cold conditions, not as insulation on its own.
Which size should you choose?
Arc'teryx cuts the Rho LT Zip Neck Fitted: close through chest, waist and hip so it layers without bulk. Check the measurements against the Arc'teryx men's tops size chart before ordering. Take the next size up only if you specifically want a t-shirt underneath or need extra body length; otherwise stay with your usual size. This shop carries M, L and XL.
How is the Arc'teryx Rho LT Zip Neck constructed?
The Arc'teryx Rho LT Zip Neck is a single-layer knit, not a laminate. The body is Torrentâ„¢ jersey knit at 185 g/m2, brushed on the inside face for warmth and blended with 16% elastane so the fabric moves with you rather than pulling at the shoulders. Flatlock seams lie flat against the skin, which matters when a pack hipbelt or a shoulder strap sits on them for hours. Articulated patterning and gusseted underarms keep the sleeves from riding up when you reach, and a slight drop hem stops the back lifting out of a pair of ski pants. A laminated chest pocket with a laminated zip holds a phone or earbuds. Total weight is 245 g.
Is the Rho LT Zip Neck suitable for resort skiing and ski touring?
Yes, as the layer closest to your skin. For resort days the Arc'teryx Rho LT Zip Neck goes under a midlayer and a shell, and the deep front zip plus the collar zip let you vent on a long lift queue or a warm bootpack. For touring and freeride it works the same way inside a layering system. Where it stops is weather: there is no membrane, no stated water repellency and no windproofing, so the knit is air-permeable and will not protect you on its own. One source wearer at 198 cm found the body too short for standalone use, which is worth weighing if you are tall and planning to wear it alone.
What is the Rho LT Zip Neck made of and how do you wash it?
The fabric is 84% polyester with 16% elastane and carries an anti-odour treatment, so the Arc'teryx Rho LT Zip Neck can be worn several days in a row on a trip before it needs washing. Machine wash it gentle and cool, inside out, dark colours separately, with a double rinse. Skip fabric softener and bleach, because softener coats the fibres and blunts moisture transport. Tumble dry gentle on low and take it out straight away; do not iron and do not dry clean. The elastane content is what keeps the close cut comfortable, and it is also why high heat is the fastest way to shorten this garment's life.
How sustainable is the Rho LT Zip Neck?
The Arc'teryx Rho LT Zip Neck is Fair Trade Certified and is sewn at VIET THUAN APPAREL COMPANY LIMITED in Vietnam. The body is a bluepass material, made with processes meeting bluesign criteria, and the garment is PFAS compliant. Two things are stated openly: it is a synthetic knit, so it releases plastic microfibres into the water when washed, and it is treated with an anti-odour biocidal product (Silvadurâ„¢), which some wearers prefer to avoid.
