What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 185 g/m² Torrent stretch fleece, brushed inside
- Merrow stitch seams keep bulk off the skin
- 230 g, Fitted cut layers cleanly under a shell
- No wind or water protection; base layer only
- Light warmth only: needs insulation over it
- Crew neck gives no neck coverage
The Arc'teryx Rho LT Crew Neck is a men's long-sleeve base layer in Torrent stretch fleece, a 185 g/m² jersey knit with a brushed inner face, made for mixed-output days in cool and cold conditions. It weighs 230 grams and is cut Fitted, so it sits close through chest, waist and hip and disappears under a midlayer or shell. Merrow stitch seams keep seam bulk and rub off the skin, and the fabric carries an anti-odour treatment.
Who is the Rho LT Crew Neck for?
It suits a skier, ski tourer or hiker who wants one close-fitting synthetic base layer that adds a little warmth and keeps moving moisture when output rises and falls. Arc'teryx lists the Rho LT Crew Neck for alpine use, touring, resort and freeride skiing, hiking and cool-weather trail running. It is not the right top if you want room for a thick midlayer underneath, if you prefer wool to a synthetic knit, or if you avoid chemically treated anti-odour fabrics.
How warm is the Arc'teryx Rho LT Crew Neck?
The 185 g/m² brushed fleece gives light warmth only: it is a thermal foundation, not an insulating layer, and it needs a midlayer or insulated jacket over it on cold, static days. There is no membrane, so the Arc'teryx Rho LT Crew Neck offers no wind protection and no water repellency and should not be worn as an outer layer. In mild weather at high output, 185 g/m² is more fabric than you need.
Which size should you choose?
Order your usual size. Customer feedback on this Fitted cut is consistent, with no pattern of sizing up or down, and the shape is patterned to go next to the skin and under outer layers. Use the Arc'teryx men's tops size chart on this page to check chest and sleeve length. This shop stocks M, L and XL.
How is the Arc'teryx Rho LT Crew Neck constructed?
The body of the Arc'teryx Rho LT Crew Neck is a single layer of Torrent stretch fleece: a jersey knit at 185 g/m², made of 84% polyester and 16% elastane, brushed on the inside face. The elastane content is what gives the knit its recovery, so the base layer stretches with a reaching or poling movement and returns to shape instead of bagging out. Articulated patterning through the shoulders and arms supports that movement. Instead of standard flatlock construction, the seams use Merrow stitching, which reduces seam size where the garment presses against the skin under a pack strap or a harness. A laminated chest pocket sits on the front, bonded rather than sewn on, which is unusual on a base layer and not to everyone's taste. Total weight is 230 grams.
Does the Rho LT Crew Neck work for ski touring and resort skiing?
Yes, within its range. On a touring day the Rho LT Crew Neck handles the output swing between a long climb and a cold transition: the knit moves vapour freely, and the Fitted cut keeps the fabric against the skin where it can do that work. On resort and freeride days it functions as the first layer under a fleece or insulated jacket and a shell. Where it stops is clear: in wind or snowfall it needs a shell over it, in deep cold standing at a lift it needs insulation over it, and on mild high-output days a lighter fabric suits better. The crew neck collar also gives no neck or face coverage, so pack a neck gaiter if that matters to you.
What is the Rho LT Crew Neck made of and how do you wash it?
The fabric is 84% polyester with 16% elastane, finished with an anti-odour treatment so the top can go several days between washes. Wash it inside out on a gentle, low-temperature cycle, keep dark colourways separate, and skip the fabric softener, which coats the knit and blunts its moisture transport. Give it a double rinse, take it out of the machine straight away and tumble dry gentle and low. No bleach, no dry cleaning, no ironing. The garment is made in Vietnam.
How sustainable is this base layer?
The Torrent body is a bluepass material, made through processes that meet bluesign criteria, and the Arc'teryx Rho LT Crew Neck is PFAS compliant and carries Fair Trade Certified sewing. Two honest notes belong with that: like other synthetic knits it can release plastic microfibres into the water when washed, and the odour control comes from an applied biocidal treatment rather than from a natural fibre.
